That lens would be great. A large aperture like f/1.8 will let in a lot of light - this means that when you're at 1.8 and you focus on something close, like if you were shooting a portrait, the background would be blurred nicely. However, if you focus to infinity, or focus on some mountains/landscape, that will be in focus. Plus, you'll get more light in so your exposure can be shorter.

My buddy Stephen Smith (http://www.iamstephensmith.com/) sent over a few more pictures from the Overland Journal trip. Such a good time.

How do you plan trips like that? Do you use USGS topo maps to find trails? How many days are they? Looks like fun!

This trip was planned by my friends Scott Brady and Sinuhe Xavier, the publisher and Creative Director of Overland Journal/Expedition Portal, respectively. In this case, Sinuhe spent ten years roaming through Southern Utah looking for trails. We used HEMA maps, and the trip took about 9 days from Vegas to Moab and down to Arizona.

Been a little too busy for the truck lately, as my friend and I imported a BMW e30 Touring from Germany -

We're documenting the build on our youtube channel, which you can check out here:

But I did order a @Pelfreybilt front bumper, which should be here in February. Very excited for that.

Now it's time to start shopping for winches. I'm thinking WARN VR10000s. Anyone have experience with it?

 E30 touring. How was the process of import, I've been wanting to import a B5 RS4 *I think it falls under the 15yr rule making it eligible now with some minor DOT stuff

Not too bad, especially if you speak German... Costs about $2K for shipping and fees. Helps to know someone over there who can look at the car for you, though there are companies who will do that. An RS4 would be so sick, however the rule is 25 years - unless you know something I don't know?

What a coincidence, I just watched that video before I saw your post. That one is beautiful.

The 25yr is considered a classic and is much easier to import from my understanding as its exempt from EPA/DOT. Who did you use for a registered importer? Ive been trying to wrap my head around some of the fees involved.

The RS4 was first considered non conforming but after a petition it became eligible for import since the US spec A4/S4 are so identical. Sounds like headlights, windshield, and ECU reflash since its not "green" enough. Ive been attempting to search for cars online but its proving to be difficult since I'm not sure what sites are best. Like our autotrader.

Im excited to see where your touring ends up, heres some not so e30 but still BMW wagon motivation

Ahhhhhhh that wagon is beautiful. Love it. That's crazy about the RS4, I had no idea. We're sticking with 25+ yr old cars to avoid getting impounded or crushed. But I hope that works out for you. We used TransGlobal.

Check out mobile.de - that's Germany's version of AutoTrader, and people from surrounding countries - Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, etc. list on there as well. Learn a few German words or get Chrome to auto translate.

Looks great man! Love it, your truck looks good. As far as tips, google "Speedhunters Car Photography Basics." They have some really awesome tips and have 5-6 articles on everything.

The 80 is my buddy Dewey's. There's still a ton of desert out here I need to explore.

I left it in. I'm going to take things apart to install the new bumper and change my 884s to 885s, so I might drive it around without the sway bar for a bit and see how I feel. I'll keep you posted if I do.

I love em. Super heavy, but very durable. I air down to 10-12 psi all the time. Perform great in everything from snow and mud to rocks and sand. I might even try getting them in 315/75r16 when these wear out. Though that might be several years cause these are tough.
