What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Hmmm, certainly a good idea for a product. A box that isolates a door speaker when the CB is doing something. I can think of a couple ways to do it but I think with most CBs tiny built in amp they wouldnt get very loud. But its doable.

Even better I found a premade product that already does just that. Only downside to this product is it wants 12V AC to power itself.

Specs say it uses DC power and you can get an adapter for in home use, but it's $50, we should be able to design something for cheaper.

 

You're totally right, not sure how I misread that. I'm thinking of a method that uses a couple diodes and a relay. Ideally you'd want two relays even though the CB is a mono audio source. You'd want to kill the music on the other speaker to avoid unclear audio. Also it would be good to be able to control the gain on the CB radios output so it isn't glaringly louder than the radio when it blasts on.

 

@m3bassman wondering, can you see out your rear view mirror with the RTT at that height? I'm thinking of doing the same by splitting the difference above and below the roofline.

 

No. Only way to have a useful rear view mirror with a RTT is have it be over 15" above the bed rails. And that is way to tall IMO.

 

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of.

Is there a write up for this mod?...looks good. I had been thinking two led pods would look good cut into the bumper on each side too.

 

Put a camera on the back of the frame holding the RTT and mount the screen in place of your mirror.

 

A truck driver friend of mine had his CB set so it would turn the volume on the radio down 20db or so and the CB would play over all the speakers. He also had a headset he could hook up to hear the CB better. I'll have to ask him how he had that set up.
