Those are them. I get a lot of compliments. The bends they make really look awesome. Wife is jelly cuz she can't find tube doors for her jeep that look as good as these.

i have both, i bought a wrangler for the wife and she loves it.. personally im a toy guy, but have always had jeeps. im not loyal to any brand.. i work on everything just as much as the other. i own a chevy, ford, two toyotas and a jeep, also have KTMs, Yamaha's, kawsakis, and Hondas in my garage. i am not brand specifically loyal. i do notice that some are more expensive to work on then others.. but alllll vehicles cost money. the jeep keeps the wife happy and its a good beach cruiser. she drives one mile to work so comfort isnt an issue for her. would i drive to Southern Cali tommorow? i doubt it.. unless i had to. i feel each Vehicle has a sacrifice, it just depends on what you personally want..

keep your taco and get a softtopper sunroof in it! always thought that would be a cool setup for a 4runner/taco or tundra..

Yeah I think that's what I may end up doing. I may go with an old Wrangler - i.e. late 80s / early 90s YJ. Not sure if I'll go back to the CJ realm - most of those guys think they're worth their weight in gold b/c they're old. YJs are still pretty prevalent and cheap.

Hm, 4X Innovations says those are only 2005 - 2013. I wonder why they wouldn't fit on a 2015? I'll have to email them and ask if the hinges changed or something.

I'm a Jeep guy all the way. I really surprised my family when I picked up my 2010 Tacoma a few months ago. I've only had one Jeep, a 1994 YJ. It was my first car and has been daily driven for over 7 years. Driven on many big trips 6 hours plus. Drove it 50 miles every day to college and back. It has never once let me down, but you have to do proper maintenance. Just like any other vehicle it has its quirks.

I would love to get my hand on a 2012+ 4 door but I can't see paying that much for one. I did test drive a few of them and have to say they felt and handled amazingly compared to my old YJ. So I picked up the Taco for about half the price. I love the truck and it does what I need it to.

I just cant compare the taco to a Jeep. It's a totally different animal IMO.

Good point. Yeah, I think that I'm going to end up just having to have both.

    So now, the question is:

    A) Keep my brand new Taco and get a cheap ($5k or under) Jeep - an old YJ or something.

    OR

    B) Sell my brand new Taco and split it 'halfsies' - get a $10k Jeep and get a Taco for around $10k - so likely a 1st Gen or something.

I own both. I have a 2005 Rubicon and a 2015 TRD OR. I don't know why you all say that you have to work on them all the time. I have had to only replace a stuck open thermostat. Not a big deal in my book.

i tossed around the idea of getting a Jeep Wrangler sahara b/c i do love the way they look lifted and some wheels and tires on it but a few things changed my mind. gas mileage is worse than most 8cyl trucks. chrysler reliability is getting worse by the year it seems. and lastly, the Death Wobble. you tube it...its scary watching some of those videos.

in the end i feel i made the right choice between the taco and wrangler but i honestly shouldve considered a 4runner at that time aswell. i had a 05 4runner with a v8 and loved it. thought id give the Taco a try, i like it, but i shouldve went into another 4runner.

I agree - I think that the ones with bad experiences are just more vocal than those with good ones. I realize Jeeps aren't as dependable as Tacos, but I also know that I have had a lot of Jeeps, and none of them have had any really serious issues.

Adding poll here shortly to vote on it...

    VOTE!

    Again, options:

    1) New '15 Taco, old crappy cheap Jeep (most money on Taco)

    2) Used older Taco, decent Jeep (split in half)

this is the best option, my wifes wrangler is a yj, has 64k 4.0, with 4inlift 33s and all three tops for 3k..

I'd keep your current ride and pick up a cheap YJ. With the vast aftermarket support for Jeeps you can make an old YJ just as capable as a new JK and usually parts are easy to find and cheap on Craigslist of your patience. I'd say 50% of my Jeep's mods are parts from guys selling on Craigslist/forums that just lost interest.

If you're gonna go older Jeep.....skip the YJ and go CJ5 or 7. I loved mine.

I have an '02 Jeep Wrangler. It's a two-door. I also have a 2016 TRDOR in Double Cab. Without question, the Taco is a much better daily driver. I mean, it's not even debatable. I am a high mileage driver (5.5k miles in about 7 wks). While the Jeep was my daily, I was renting almost once per week for road trips because the Jeep was just rough. 33" Mickeys and a 3" lift. All high quality stuff on the Jeep, but it really sucks on the highway.

I have had many people with me on road trips. At first, they were hesitant to take a pickup on a long road trip. After 100 miles, every singe person commented on just how comfortable and quiet it is.

So, from a guy that has 20+ years of wheel time in a Jeep (the '02 is my second) and 5.5k miles in a Taco, I'll tell you that the Taco is like a Cadillac on the road compared to the Jeep.

I should also add in my off-road thoughts. I do a lot of off-roading. I have some acreage and use both the Jeep and the Taco to access it. Lots of hills, trees, and mud, as well as some great open space for donuts and speed. The Jeep excels at the low-speed maneuvers through the woods and mud. It's really tough to beat those MT tires, a ton of ground clearance, and a turning radius that's almost as good as a tank. But for getting on it and moving along at some speed, the Taco wins off-road. The locking rears on both make donuts pretty darned awesome!!!

So, I love 'em both. As a 42 y/o professional, I need the Taco. I'll steal a phrase I read somewhere else, between the two, I got 99 problems and a ditch ain't one.

Oh, and bed of the Taco makes a great shooting platform!20151219_165328.jpg

This is a little unfair you have to admit. An 02 wrangler vs a new Tacoma.

I have a 14 jkur and a newer Tacoma. Hands down the jkur is a better driver. Even lifted. The 37's did make it a little harder to drive for highway use as it started floating a little. But want to keep the miles low on the jeep til it's paid off so the Tacoma is my work driver.

Reiterating here but there is no comparison between a Jeep and any pickup.

I own a truck because I need one.

Outside of that I take my family places on the weekends in the Tacoma and I don't think the Jeeps have very good safety ratings.

    They do look fun though.

This is awesome. All good points.

I'm looking at a YJ or older if I do get a Jeep. I'd love to have a TJ, but if I keep my Taco, I'm looking at a $5k and under budget for my Jeep, so YJ it is! No worries - more money for mods. :-D

Fair 'nuff - to each their own. In his defense, I am likely looking at a YJ or a TJ, so an older Jeep, so it does apply to me. I doubt I'll be getting a newer one, although it is a possibility I suppose. Good to know that there is someone who enjoys the JK ride over the Taco, though!
