looked into the cab mount chop. not as big of a deal as I thought as long as I can get some one to cover the chop with some steel im going to go for it.

Installing the lift without UCA's is certainly an option but you may not get back into factory alignment specs. This isn't really a big deal... the downside is your tires will not wear evenly and will need to be replaced sooner. If the alignment is severely off the truck might pull left or right when driving straight or make noises at speed on the interstate.

Toytec did put a body lift on their SEMA truck but that was primarily to fit the 35's. They definitely trimmed fenders and chopped the cab mount. I'm in the same boat as you though, trimming fenders is no big deal, cutting one of the cab mounts is a different story.

I've researched cmc's as well and I'll admit they are fine, a lot of people have done them but I would not do it to my truck.

How much of a lift did you get out of it, if you measured before? Looking at putting it on mine possibly because its purely a street truck. Thanks!

Depends how much you value suspension performance from multiple aspects. There is no single answer for this.

The way I approach choosing a suspension manufacturer to purchase from is to look at their history and involvement in professional racing applications. More is better in terms of experience/involvement in years and success by teams using their products.
    • ARB (Old Man Emu) - Australian 4x4 accessories company that dates back to 1975. Not sure when ARB started making the OME suspensions. Website does not mention any racing involvement. Great company that makes great stuff but suspensions are far from the only thing they make.
    • ToytecLifts - American company that came into the game in 2004. Used Bilstein shocks for awhile but eventually made their own shocks and they sell them within their Boss kit. I have never read anything that indicates Toytec has ever been involved in professional racing, I could be wrong though. Great company, great products, suspension focused, kind of young.
    • Icon - American company. Was Donahoe Racing before the owner Kreg Donahoe was arrested and imprisoned. At this time (2007-2008) the company went through a restructuring and became Icon Vehicle Dynamics. I am not sure when Donahoe Racing originated but I read an article about them racing in a Baja 1000 race during 2003. However, I do not think Icon is currently involved with any professional racing teams.. It is not explicitly mentioned anywhere on their website and I found nothing when researching. I believe they are currently focused on the OEM replacement market. Note: Icon uses a digressive damping profile which is contrary to what pretty much EVERYONE else does. Some think its a good thing, some don't. Research it, form your own opinion.
    • Fox Racing Shox - Bob Fox started racing his shocks in motocross in 1974. Created the American company Fox Racing Shox in 1980 centered around motocross (dirt bikes). They later entered the Mountain Bike shock market for obvious reasons. They also make shocks for snowmobiles and trucks/SUVs. They are heavily involved in professional racing with dirt bikes and mountain bikes. Fox shocks are also found on Trophy Trucks. Better at making shocks for two wheel vehicles as opposed to 4 wheel vehicles? Probably.
    • Bilstein - German company that originated in 1873. Entered automotive accessories arena in 1928. Been developing shocks since 1954. HUGE presence in motorsports. "All AMG Mercedes in the DTM and over half of the teams in the 24 hour race on the NĂĽrburgring approach the starting line with BILSTEIN accessories." Bilstein shocks are also found on many of the Trophy Trucks that race in the Baja 500, Baja 1000 etc. Note: 5100s are entry level offroad shocks from Bilstein. They have a handful of superior offerings.
    • King - American company that originated in 1996 but website says Lance King was supplying professional racers shocks in the early 80's. King was created from day 1 to supply custom shocks to professional offroad racers that were abusing suspensions, taking them to the limit and well past it. Selling their products to every day customers driving down the street looking for a lift was an after thought. And King still, to this day, is building custom one off shocks for race trucks. King has a huge presence in offroad racing. Many of the trucks racing in the Baja 500, Baja 1000 etc races are running King shocks. Almost all of the no-expenses spared offroad buggy builds that I have researched are running Kings. Another thing to note about King is they pretty much only make shocks for 4 wheel offroad vehicles with racing performance in mind. All of their resources are spent on researching and developing that one particular product.
My preference for shock manufacturers is the reverse order that I discussed them above. And for that reason my answer to your question is King because I want what I think is the best regardless of the price.

Fwiw, some people might think I'm stupid for wanting a race inspired suspension if I'm not racing but in my opinion racing is where the pinnacle of engineering resides. I want that. To each their own though.

I got carried away with this post...lol. If anyone spots something incorrect above please point it out.

Well thank you for the in depth follow up to my question. I am aware it's all personal opinion, but with the way the market has grown in the aftermarket industry for lift kits, there's so many options these days. I like the input from fellow TW members with experience or insight.

    Thanks

No mention of Ironman? Only reason I do is they have been on my short list of systems to evaluate before making a decision. Choice is good but not always easy...

I have a '16 TRD OR. I am looking at putting 265/75-16 KO2's on the stock wheels. Eventually a 3" lift (likely the 6112/5160 UCA AAL combo from Headstrong), will I run into any issues? Any with this setup have insight versus the stock suspension? Thanks in advance.

Seems to be the perfect size tire for the 3rd gen.

A few are going with the 265's

The 285 just fills the tire well really good and on a 3" lift, there is no cutting needed. I wish my '06 fit the 285 as well.
