Manual transmission Fan Club and BS thread (All Generations Welcome)

I see us manual guys get a bad wrap in a lot of threads. We get called ricers, and if we ever state that we think a manual is better for any task we get 10 replies stating why a modern day automatic is better in every possible way.

So here is our thread to sound off and spew our praise for the tried and true manual tranny.

I'm Chris and I'm a manual fan boy and I'm proud of it. Who are you other manual fans?

 

You can have my clutch pedal when you pry it out from under my cold dead left foot.

 

Not 3rd gen. But I'm much more happy driving a manual.

 

I don't discriminate to third gen only. Look at my sig. 3rd Gen is my fourth gen...and they all had three pedals.

 

Same here lol, never owned a automatic and I've owned 5 vehicles so far and I'm only 25!

 

Automatics can be bad ass!



Just not in the Tacoma. I wish I had a 6-speed in my Tacoma. The 1st gen with a manual was a blast.

10 Tacoma
14 WRX
16 Tacoma (hopefully tomorrow)

All manual. I drive a slushbox POS for work. My wife hates manuals. I love 'em. Given the ability I'll never buy a vehicle for myself with an automatic transmission.

 

I've owned one slush box a 2005 Duramax with an Allison transmission. I have 150,000 on it. Plan to drive it till 250,000 or until they put a diesel motor or a manual transmission in a Tundra. Which ever comes first.

 

Automatics are for fat people.

 

I lucked out, my wife would prefer a manual over an automatic any day of the week. In our almost 20 years together there's only been three autos, a short lived '91 Accord, my $1200 trash hauler of a '94 F250 that's days away from going back on Craigslist, and my wife's current ride, a '10 Prius that she's itching to get rid of. We were holding onto my cousin's S2k last fall and winter and driving that everyday made her sour on the Prius. She wants another tC or an FR-S now.

I think you may have it turned around. The manual drivers are usually the ones instigating the argument of superiority. I've been a heavily active forum member of numerous sites for 12 years now. That's a universal internet truth.

I have a 5spd manual 4cyl on order.

Also.... what shift knob are you guys running? Do you know what threading requirement I need for the 5spd knob? Not many sites have 2016 5spd as a searchable knob option.

 

Love manuals but the one in the 2011 was the worst I had ever driven. My next vehicle will be manual!

 

I have never owned an automatic anything, no desire to be lazy!

 

I've had over 25 cars and a few motorcycles. All manuals but two work vans that weren't available that way. Even my daughters have manuals. I keep hearing people confuse the high-tech trannies found in exotic sports cars and race cars with the autos in their basic rigs and think that they have something sophisticated! The dual-clutch transmissions everyone reads about are much closer to manuals than the slushboxes the masses are driving. Beyond the difference in control (crawling up or engine braking down mountain passes on the highway) check out the difference in rwhp as measured on a chassis dyno. Why give up the power?

 

My 2015 Charger SRT 392 has the fastest, crispest shifting automatic I've ever ridden in or driven. You pull the paddle and it shifts immediately often breaking the tires loose. It's a damn good ZF 8 speed automatic transmission. People cannot believe it's a conventional automatic when they ride in my car. That is an exception to the rule though.

 

This Tacoma is my first automatic in about 5 years. That being said, if the Limited came in the manual, I would have gotten it that way.

 

I always love when people complain about the throws in the Tacomas. I have a 1970 Chevy that my dad bought brand new. If you want to see a long throw drive that one. My 2016 is car like in comparison.

 

I think Toyota underestimates the demand of manuals. I think if they made twice as many as they do they would sell every one of them.
