I am getting a lift for my 2012 Tacoma Trd off road 4x4. I went to a local shop that will do a icon stage 2 lift with nitto trail grappler 265/70/17r for 4200 taxes and all . Does this seem steap or a good deal? The lift would be 3 inches .
Also that is the biggest they said I could get but I was hoping for 285/75/17 with some trimming , anyone have any luck with that ? Thanks !

A buddy of mine owns a 2015 Tacoma. He went with a 4 inch lift, 20 inch wheels and 33 inch tires. Also had a toolbox ordered and installed at the same time. He paid $5,200 for everything including installation and alignment.

I would recommend installing the lift yourself. Since it is a 3 inch lift it is fairly easy and requires no cutting. I had no experience installing lifts before but did mine myself with the help of TW and YouTube.

You need an itemized quote. Prices for tires, suspension components, and labor to better see where they're coming from. Does that include new wheels? If cash is no problem for you then just do it, but to put it in perspective I spent around $1900 for a 3" lift with 5100's, springs, aal, alignment, 18" wheels and at tires w/ new tpms, but I did the install of the suspension myself. It's not icon, but does icon parts and labor cost an additional 2k more? Maybe you're in the ballpark, but what I'm getting at is you can lower your costs by sourcing the parts and installing yourself, even with icon.

Icon Stage 2 kit is $1944 just about everywhere I've seen them. Discount Tire has the grapplers for $264.14 x 4 ($1056.56) for total of $3000.56. I think $1200 labor is steep.

Here's a pretty good video if you are debating on installing yourself. It's very easy and saves a bunch of money. Plus you can tell everyone you did all the work yourself :yay:

Terrible deal. Have them break it down for you - how much you're paying for everything.

You're literally talking about overpaying by thousands if you don't do your research and/or at least consider doing some of the install yourself.

Installation may seem intimidating, but it's SO worth it to save a good amount of money. There are local sub-forums here on TW, and I guarantee you that you will be able to get some guys to come and help you install the lift. A lot of guys, including me, love doing that stuff for some pizza and beer!

PLEASE don't feed the machine and pay that amount.

Insane. I guess I should feel fortunate to have a garage and mechanical skills so I can avoid crazy butt-rape shop rates. :goingcrazy:

Keep in mind though, it costs money to run a shop and make a living doing this sort of shit.

You're welcome. I referenced this video a lot when I was installing my OME 3 inch lift. The guy in the video makes it look easier than it really is but by no means is it hard. I've never put on a lift before let alone do any suspension work on a vehicle so I was def a newbie when I installed my lift. With a little research, reading forums here on TW and watching the video I posted about 100 times (not really, but seriously) you'll be able to install no problem.

I also have another video I can send you depending on if you are installing blocks or a leaf package in the rear.

Not sure where you're located, but there is regional forums in here where you can post this up. You may be able to find some willing guys, you can set a date, and have a few guys on-hand to 1) help out with the heavy shit and 2) ideally, have some knowledge from their past lift installations.

    Highly recommend it.

Glad to hear it - spending money on mods instead of labor is always great, and you get to learn more about your truck!

I'll let someone else chime in on the tire size you're trying to fit.

thats about $1000 for labor. it isnt too bad but the job is pretty simple. only difficult if your doing upper control arms. i did all the work myself except for the spring swap. didnt want 700lb springs popping off into my face.
