We actually don't have enough information about what happened betwern Luke/Ben/Snoake to really make a difinitive answer. Its all guess work at this point.

I think Luke realized he wasn't ready to train Jedi and needed some guidance. He didn't go into hiding, he went to find the first Jedi temple.

Perhaps he was also struggling with his own Dark Side tendencies, which began to manifest themselves in ESB and ROJ. I agree that he probably needed to find the temple to just to get himself back on the right path.

Throwing this out there. What if Rey is Luke's niece, from his tatooine family. Basically luke/Jedi took her from her parents at 5 years and dropped her off. Just a thought.

I was also upset that Kylo removed his helmet so quickly. The scene where he's interrogating Rey for her information would have been FAR more epic and intimidating with his helmet on. I mean, c'mon his helmet was bad ass! And then I see his teenage face and was just so upset.
So I think to myself, if there was ANY moment in this movie that was appropriate for him to remove his helmet it would have been when Han asks him to remove it. Regardless of the fact, that I knew what was coming it just seemed appropriate you know? Fine, get one last look at your son. Touch his face as you die, whatever. At that point, I wouldn't have cared much what Ren looked like.

Also, I think the last lightsaber duel(s) would have been better with his helmet on as well. I'm not sure I really liked his facial expressions. Also, I think it would have been pretty cool to see Rey's lightsaber potentially split open his mask (then maybe the removal of his mask, again, would have been appropriate)

Idk.. for me there were a lot of things to like and dislike about the movie. Mostly because I'm a fan, I feel forced to love the franchise no matter what.

One of my coworker's has this crazy conspiracy theory that Rey will be Obi Wan's grand daughter. :notsure:

I think it would be more interesting if she was just another character with a ridiculously high midichlorian (spelling) count. Like in ep.1 when Quai-gon asks Anakin's mother, "who's the father?" and she simply replies "there is no father"
I'm kinda getting over the thought of someone being ultra strong with the Force HAS TO be related some how..

Yeah I get that too. Just logically that is the only thing that makes sense. When would like ever have time to get busy with a lady? I don't think he has a daughter. Lol

Yea, I mean the movie forced us with so many hints that are trying to make us believe Rey will be Luke's daughter..

Question, why is everybody dismissing Rey as Han and Leia's daughter? Not revealing this to her would make sense and they are trying to protect her from Ren and Snoke. Plus, they could be embarrassed about dumping her in the desert.

Do we know the age difference between Kylo and Rey? To me, it makes a lot of sense story wise if they are brother sister.

I wouldn't dismiss that theory, either. At this point, anything is possible. And I could see that happening too

I don't think they would have dumped a 5 year old girl alone. It's not their style. But anything is a posibility.

I have my theory I am sticking to it.

Plus, Rey's immediate family may be dead they eluded to that.

Maybe they removed Kylo's helmet in front of Rey so she could develop feelings for him. Like Luke and Leia. And then reveal they are siblings.

We don't know the age difference. I think it's said that Rey is 5 when she's dumped, if Kylo is a powerful force user it's not out of the realm that he went or started to go to the darkside before the age of 14. If he did at 12-14 then it's not out of the realm that Luke wouldn't want to "deal" with him because he is Han and Leia's son. So instead, he banished himself so he wouldn't be forced to confront him. He knew if he didn't, Snoke would force Kylo to seek him out and force the issue. This makes sense considering the order seems to be desperately trying to find him. Luke's in hiding because he's hoping in time Kylo will change his ways and he won't have to kill him. How could he live with himself if he destroyed Han and Leia's son.

    Woulsn't surprise me.

If that's about the sibling theory, I agree. /vomit. I wasn't all that impressed with the movie like i said before. Way too much energy and film time spent trying to pay homage to the original trilogy and utterly ridiculous coincidences. Ep 1-3 failed in part because it didn't feel like "Star Wars." They are trying to tackle that issue very early on here.

Didn't catch that. Do we know how long Luke has been missing? - forgot. If you can piece those together and they match Rey's age, might be enough evidence to say that Luke is more than likely her father. As much as I don't like spoiling sequels, so far the new generation of Star Wars isn't so focused on tension building as much as they are immediate gratitude. I'm pretty sure we will figure out very early in the next episode who fathered who.

I'm still making my way thru this thread. I agree with some of the things you've brought up so far, but I disagree some with Ren. I thought it was really interesting when he removed his helmet because I didn't expect it in this movie. Then we he started to take the helmet off I wondered about how disfigured he would be or something. Then there's this young, immature, kind of charming looking guy that was so add odd with my expectations. It made the character more interesting to me and showed just how different he is from what we've seen before.

I totally agree about the pace of this movie. It needed to be 30-45 minutes longer. Everything was so rushed. Finn and Rey needed more time on Jakku to develop a relationship before being forced to move on, etc. But I guess in some way it fits the Star Wars universe. I've never tried to get an exact time frame, but I think everything in each of the original 3 movies takes place in like a 2-3 day time frame. Like in Ep 4 Luke has this huge emotional reaction to Ben being killed, this gut he like just met the day before. In this universe there seems to be long periods of not much going on, or going slowly, then all hell breaks loose for 2-3 days.
