The tailgate on the 2 Gen Tacoma is nefariously weak. Ditch the stock plastic and opt for something tougher. The Mobtown Tailgate Cap will add rigidity to your tailgate and protect the top edge from bumps and bruises. Laser cut to match the curved edge of your tailgate and powder coated to match beautifully with the rest of the bed. The Mobtown Tailgate Cap will give you the confidence in your tailgate to focus on using your truck, not breaking your tailgate.

Fits all 2nd Generation Toyota Tacoma (2005-2015).

    • Made from 14 GA. Steel
    • Tough Texture Black Powdercoat
    • Laser Cut Curve For A Clean Look
    • Gasketed To Eliminate Metal on Metal Contact

Does this only cover the inside and the top face? The pictures look like it does not go over the lip to the rear facing part of the tailgate.

It wraps the inside and over the top by does not come down the outside. Instead it follows the curvature of the tailgate for a clean look.

Just ordered a tailgate guard as I was unhappy with the Factory plastic one. I have ordered from Mobtown in the past (lockable storage doors) and was very happy with their product and the speed of shipping.

Is this just the tailgate cap? How about the piece that covers the inside of the tailgate?

I received the tailgate cap I ordered. Mobtown was prompt in shipping but Fedex took a bit longer than I expected. Install was easy and the cap is well made. Only issue I had was that even with the screws tight, there was a slight wiggle on the passenger side. I placed a thin rubber shim between the cap and the tailgate and it has no wiggle now.

Quick review of my first expirince with Mobtown Offroad:

Ordered the tailgate cap, and had very fast shipping. Installed the cap in 5 minutes while playing with my dog and new puppy.

The quality of the part is TOP-NOTCH! The slight curve to match the tailgate is perfect, all the holes lined up, and the powder coat finish was evenly applied. The foam tape to protect the paint was a great touch. The added heft to the tailgate really makes the tale gate "feel" heftier/ tougher.

Overall a great product from a great vendor. Can't wait to start buying even more parts!

If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
I just acquired a Mobtown Offroad Tailgate Reinforcement Cap and installed it this evening. :gossip: (cool story about how I got it here)

Anyway, the cap itself is well made and plenty beefy! The timing could not have been better either, as I noticed my Pop'Lock was starting to bind up and needed some grease. Undid all the screws, removed the cap and cover piece, and greased the shit out of the Pop'Lock gears/mechanisms before buttoning it back up.

One thing I noticed - the stock screws "bottom out" before being able to tighten down all the way on the cap. The screws have a little lip on them, which is thicker than the 14ga. tailgate cap:

After I tightened all the screws, I noticed the tailgate cap was not as tight and solid as it should be (due to the "lip" on the screws). A quick trip to the tool box, and I dug up some 3/8" flat cut washers to fill the gap. These washers fit perfectly on the screws.

    PROBLEM SOLVED!!!
Tightened all the screws (w/ washers) down, and now this thing is SOLID!!!
Big Thanks to @Mobtown Offroad and @ndcmack for the hook-up!

I wonder if it's not setup to fit tight with their tail gate skin...

We rarely sell the cap alone, and when people buy it with the skin they buy the hardware pack too which eliminates the stock hardware. So your solution is a simple one and we appreciate the write up. I'm going to check but it might make sense for us to start including the washers with the caps. I can check myself but off the top of your head do you know if you used SAE or USS flat washers?

I believe they are 3/8" USS flat cut washers. The ID is slightly larger than other 3/8 sizes I had, so it fits around the raised portion of the screw.

The SAE washers put the ID at 13/32", and the USS is 7/16" ID.
