Looks like a dipole antenna with an amplifier. Also known as rabbit ears.

    1) Find the other end of it and see what it's hooked to. That's probably what it's for.

    2) disconnect it and see what quits working.

I'd be removing it regardless. Not only is it not 'factory', it's an ugly kludge of something aftermarket.

It's not factory.... The Tacoma would have been discontinued by now if it used Velcro to hold their trucks together...

Asks a question, doesn't want an obvious answer.

What does the vintage antenna say on the back?... Toyota, Bulldog, Directed... etc.?

Did you try unplugging that antenna and try using your keyfob to see if that was it?

That helped me identify what it was which told me that it's supposed to be connected to a kit of some sort. Is there any way to figure out what this is connected to without having to peel the wiring out of the roof and paneling? Is there specific models/devices that this Responder Antenna (6711T) operates? I bought my vehicle used and thought it was a radio antenna until recently. If it connects to something desirable like keyless entry/remote start and it's already installed then I would like to possibly get a key fob replacement and use it. I'm assuming it's not just a car alarm because I haven't seen the siren/horn but I'm not sure where that's installed either. Any tips or tricks to narrow down what this might be would be very welcome and appreciated.
Advice that does not include completely gutting the wiring to find out where it ends or taking it in to a professional and paying for someone to tell me what I already own.
Mine was located behind the rearview mirror on windshield and goes into the ceiling and then down the side panel of the windshield. I looked underneath the steering wheel but could not find anything that looked out a place. But professionally installed systems should not look out of place anyway. I really don't know what exactly I'm looking for.
I thought I'd give this a world before I spent the money.
