so much truth here, big thing to keep in mind @swalters is if you're prepared to brandish you had better be prepared to use it. You're ultimate goal when carrying everyday should be to never have to even pull your weapon, let alone use it. 90% of the time simply drawing under qualifying circumstances will be enough to diffuse the situation but that shouldn't be your mindset going into a scenario where you may have to use it.

I have a buddy who has been around guns his whole life. He always said he would never ever carry with a round in the chamber. I gave him the same advice but never pushed it on him. That was his decision to make. A few months ago he registered his wife for a class at Gunsite so she could get some training and experience. He decided to take the class with her for fun. After the class we spoke and he told me finally saw the light and he will never carry without a round in the chamber again.

Real world training can be a huge eye opener..

So I went on leave for just 4 days and my email had 4,000 emails in my inbox. Some dumb ass back east clicked the wrong distro list for his email and blasted 85,000+ people. To further add to the stupidity of this, everyone was replying all to be removed from the email distro which further backed up everyones emails. I just spent the last 2 hours deleting emails.

So special that workplace violence almost turns as an acceptable measure of training. :smack:

Regardless of having a round chambered, your video doesn't give anyone enough time to draw and discharge.
Situationally 99% of general populous are not trained nor aware to draw like Doc.

There are more instance of accidental discharge carrying chambered resulting in severe injury than someone not being able to draw, rack and shoot.

    http://gunssavelives.net/blog/video...jacket-drawstring-causes-negligent-discharge/
Look up Serpa accidental discharge or any other holster accidental discharge and compare that with situations that don't allow you to rack.

Unless you are active LEO, military deployed, there's no need to carry chambered IMO.

I would agree here. Bottom line would be to go through training and to be 100% familiar with it. If someone is asking whether to chamber or not, should go to training and educate themselves before making any decision. The individual must be comfortable making that decision and not anyone else for them. IMO.

The video is by no means and end all tell all statement. I simply picked one and posted it in order to stimulate thought as to why it might be a good idea to carry with one chambered. I don't fault anyone for the choice they make regarding the issue. It's all personal preference.

I've shot a box of Federal's, they felt nice. I forget the last box I shot. Felt pretty well too. Everything I've shot has been 115 gr. I just purchased 1000rds of 115 gr steel cased as plinking for Sam and I. Got it for a good deal and figured might as well put some serious time in during our break from school now. That's a lot of good info though. Most of that I wouldn't have thought of too.

It did. Being I have a OWB holster with trigger guard, I'm not too worried with one in the chamber.

Love my Glock 19 so far!

We most definitely need/will be taking a CCW here shortly. I want to make sure the decisions we make are legally correct if the situation were to arrive.

And this is where Sam comes from. We don't currently have the training for reaction time. I don't know if we ever really will have that much training. I absolutely see the point of always carrying chambered. It saves time. But if the time comes, will I have the proper training? I don't feel I do right now. I also have minimal rounds through my weapon.

    I would agree to disagree.

There are more accidental discharges through handling/holstering due to being chambered in semi-auto handguns. More often than not, it is improper handling and faulty equipment. Most recently there's the guy suing S&W or Springfield for firing coming out of holster. He blames it on the weapon, manufacturer will probably blame on mis-handling/equipment etc etc.

    Take it FWIW.

Well it wasn't snow. It was like.. Rain that froze on you. I was covered in a sheet of ice after every run. It sucked.
