Got it straight from heretic. I ordered it with the amber lens instead if the clear.

 

Definitely has been an asset. I am working from the airport now but when I get home on the computer I will throw the pics up in the other thread.

 

Oh so it's not removable?

 

Yes and no. I can unbolt the bezel cover and pop it out in about 5 minutes and replace it with a clear lense but it isn't something you could do on the trail.

 

After following the thread @qnyla has created on the 400,000 miles currently on the clock of his tacoma https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/400-000-miles.404359/, I decided to get a detailed log going of the repairs/maintenance items I have done. I think it is very informative for people to see what really goes into keeping a truck going for high mileage amounts. Also good to see what types of maintenance are involved with certain mods or uses.

The maintenance log is in the OP and will be updated periodically

 

Just got shipping notification on some goodies. Can't wait till Christmas so I can find some time to do some tinkering.

 

Well all the parts for some big changes are here. Now just have to find some time next week to get out the wrenches.

There will be plenty. Probably going to tackle the install on monday or tuesday of next week. Took some time off from my day job and am waiting on laser cut parts to ship out more racks so I have a little down time.

 

Looking forward to your build progress Zach. Them sound like some great upgrades.

 

I am pretty stoked. Even more so stoked about how all of these mods came about. I had planned some new shocks up front, then got talking with Total Chaos and they wanted to install a full set of racks on their new 2016 Tacoma, so we decided to partner and do a little trade to help each other out. Same story with Stealth Custom Series. They will be debuting the full length rack for the 5th generation 4runner I just finished up while I get to try out some wheels I have been drooling over since I first saw them.

This industry is a great place to work and play in. Lots of stellar people out there.

 

A note on the F5s from SCS Performace. They are LIGHT. I have a couple spare steelies in my garage similar to what are on the truck now and I have one of the TRD offroad alloys. The F5s are noticeably lighter than both. Super stoked to have something with a little less rolling resistance. I am worried about damaging them on the trails (something I didn't have with the steelies because I could just paint over them) but I will soon get past that anxiety.

 

Ever since you posted your update which included the F5 wheels I've been looking at them. I too have to solve a backspaing issue before I can make the next move to finish my front end. For the weight SCS reports 19 lbs for the F5 wheel. I've weighed the TRD off-road wheel before, but lost my recorded weight. If you have a scale, please compare and share. Any concerns about running the 255/85/R16 on an 8" wheel?

 

Something else that is kind of interesting. Today I picked up a batch of about 230 crossbars from the machinist. Crossbars are roughly 3.5 lbs each which comes out to 805 pounds. Add my bedslide (150 pounds) and my shell and I easily had 1000 pounds on the Dakars today. Believe it or not the truck was level. I have about 2" of rake without that load and the dakars only dropped about 2" with all that weight and although flat, were not negatively arched at all. Still was about 2-3" off the bumps.

 

I have a scale but it isn't accurate enough to give real life comparisons. We tried to weigh our daughter before her appointment by getting our own weights and then holding her and we found it was not reliable. I bet the F5s are a couple pounds lighter though i want to say I saw a spec that said 22lbs for the TRD offroad wheels. Compared to the steelies I was running there is a big difference though.

I am a little worried mainly for the limited protection I will have from the tires. The 8" wide wheel will make the sidewalls of the tire vertical offering no protection at all. Other than that, no worries. There are a number of people who have been running SCS wheels with 255 85 16s with no issues. @Chux is running the stealth 6 which is a 8.5" wide wheel with the 255 80 17 ST Maxxs.

 

Now that I have the 3.5 BS wheels I may consider a wider tire next time around. I love the 255 85 16 but the options are limited in that size. Going to a 285 or a 295 I will have to trim more, but the tire options are plentiful. With those wider tires the 8" wheel will be perfect.

And good on the Dakars. I've been pretty impressed myself.

 

F5s are on. They look great. It is a blizzard here right now but I will get some pictures this evening when things clear up. The only down side is a now have a small bit of rubbing on my rock blok mud flaps. Mainly my fault for not getting the ones for over sized tires in the first place but it only happens on full lock with some stuff. I will probably just swap them out for the oversize tire version and it will solve the problem.
