I considered one of these, but read that the threads will go up into the pan a small distance. This means the last little bit of oil, which is typically the dirtiest doesn't get drained out. I do like the concept.....but don't think I want that last little bit of oil remaining in the pan.

I realize that little bit of dirty oil will be diluted and probably won't matter much, but I can't help the fact that stuff like that bothers me....LOL.

How wouldn't the oil get drained out, the bottom of the pan is flat and the plug is completly flat on the bottom of the pan.

as stated the threads will protrude past the bottom of the pan thus the last bit of oil will not get up and over the threads.

Same here, one of the reasons I change my own oil. I'm sure the express lube places aren't letting it drain as long as we do. That last little bit of oil is the dirtiest oil, so I try and let it go till it's several seconds between drips.....

Again probably not all that important in reality, but makes me feel better about it.....lots of similar other stuff like that in life whether it be car related or construction related.....I like to do things best I can.

The threads of the Fumoto valve stick up about 1/8" (if even that far) above the bottom of the oil pan. A very, very small amount of oil is retained in the pan, but some still is. It's not going to cause any damage at all, but I can understand the complaint.

For me, it's totally worth it to not have to fuck with the drain plug ever again. Unfortunately, mine is on a 2012 and I have no idea if it's the same size for the 2016.

Exactly, the oil pan is probably only made from 1/8" thick steel or so. The plug / or valve threads stick up into the pan. I'm sure the pan has a low spot, so this is probably a limited amount of oil that isn't draining.....but again just don't like the idea of not getting all the oil out that I can.

I've had one on my last 6 vehicles. I plan on ordering one for this truck as well. You're talking about a very small percentage of oil being retained. As stated, no more hassle and totally worth it.

There is probably a threaded boss or reinforcement already protruding into the pan that the OEM plug threads into

have not seen one, but make a couple small cuts on the first 2 or 3 threads, then clean the threads up with a die. your just making some small slots so the oil can drain.

Just look at the build thread
That is the dumbest complaint I've ever heard.

I have one & when I change the oil I warm it up, and then drive it up on some ramps. After the next oil change unscrew it to see if there's any oil left that drips out, if so file down a thread or add another gasket . As far as the threads on the oil pan, I'm pretty sure they didn't make any drastic changes in size or threads. You could go online of a Toyota parts site and see if there's different part numbers between the two years.

So the threads may stick up a little and I don't think that's really going to hurt the motor with thst little bit of oil in there. What about all the other oil that's I'm the heads? Every time you do a oil change you cannot get 100% of the oil out of the motor......

If a few threads are a concern, couldn't it be remedied simply by adding a second (or thicker) washer?

Also, what is the general consensus - the 'S' or 'N' type valve? As my Taco hasn't arrived, IDK what the clearance is...

I assume using the Fumoto drain hose is the way to go?

Hell, the complete drain kit seems to be everything needed!

Any insight is appreciated as I have never used on of these before.

That's a good idea add a washer or two and that should solve the problem!!!

It worked like a charm on my '06 Taco... removed it in hopes that it'll fit the '16..... I attach a short hose to the valve that hangs into a 5 liter oil bottle and open her up.... "slicker than eel snot".....!!:bananadance:
