are the TRD OR tires decent for trail / desert driving? This is going to be new for me as I want to visit the parks in Utah and down around AZ. I'm not looking to climb mountains or run Baja.

Correct. My Sport came with Firestones.

Funny thing about forums : No one is ever100% happy. Everyone wants Toyota to build the truck THEY want. Thing is, like all companies, Toyota has to compromise to the broadest possible customer base. Are there better tires? Undoubtedly. Are these a pretty good tore for most of us? Probably. This is especially true when you consider that *most* people rarely do more than the occasional dirt road with their Tacoma.

I'm a great example of the average Tacoma customer. I surf, haul the dogs, kids and wife. I drive in snow, and occasionally hit some dirt. But mostly, I drive on the freeway to and from my job. Really, the last thing I would want with this truck are crazy aggressive off road tires. For most of my driving, they'd give me bad mileage, would be loud, and would wear very quickly on the road.

    Stock and loving it
Some people have sliced them through the tread on sharp rocks. The sidewalls hold up well. One guy had a cactus stuck in the sidewall but the actual flat was caused by a sharp rock to the tread.

I took the tires out over the weekend and they did well. Climbed some steep stuff and drove in sand at 36psi and the tires never slipped. I won't be doing any high speed runs over sharp rocks so I'm not worried about it
