Why no front parking sonar sensors?

A backup cam helps me from reversing into stuff so rear parking sensors seem redundant/pointless on the 2016 (unless I'm missing something).

Wouldn't front parking sensors be much more useful? I have a really tight garage and I know I would definitely use them.

So if no factory front parking sensors, what do most people use for aftermarket? TY.

 

Get someone to help guide you in positioning the vehicle in the 'perfect' spot in your garage. Where you want it to be parked.

Once in place, use a golf whiffle ball and some fishing line. Hang this from the ceiling so the ball is dead center over your steering column (this is your line) and position it where it's good for you to watch all the way in, like maybe eye level, touching your windshield. (this is your distance into the garage)

Done.

Way cheaper and more consistent than 'sensors'.

 

Toyota cheaped out that's why.... some technology is just going raise the price of the truck well past it's targeted buyer's wallet.

 

This is a good idea thanks. But yeah, still doesnt explain why they would design it this way. I dont need a rear sensor when I have a backup cam. WTF? Just use that sensor in the front and keep the cost the same.

 

The tundra's have them for 2016, both front and back.

 

There is a thread somewhere around here that addresses front-mounted cameras for low-clearance, etc.
My take away from that thread was "get out and look."

I did my best to give you a garage alternative.

Certainly I don't know 'why', except on an already-over-priced-for-what-you-get truck it would just make the cost higher, for something I suspect a small percentage of owners would actually care about.

The most reasonable thought I'd have is literally make it a true option, and those who want it pay for it.

I've never needed, or wanted, any sensors. Other than in the garage scenario I offered you, when the day comes I can't figure out how to drive it like it is, I need something smaller.

hang a nerf ball from a string on the ceiling in the garage. place it so it touches the windshield at the right spot for your car/truck to fit.

 

Now I've got myself wondering if there's more low speed back over or low forward speed roll over accidents.

I have front & rear sensors & a camera on the rear (would love a camera on the front like some vehicles have) but, if I had to give any up it'd be the forward facing sensors...then again I park it in a barn so not much forward limiting.

 

Hang one of these puppies from your ceiling instead of the tennis ball. If you bought a 4x4 fill it with something. If you got the 4x2, leave it empty.

 

rear sonar sensors help will beep when you're backing out of a parking spot and there's cross-traffic (cars, people, etc..) that you won't see with the back-up camera. It's beeped at me a couple times..

I usually park in reverse anyway so i dont really need them on the front (for parking) or the rear for that matter(when getting out of my parking spot)

 

That's not my cup of tea (ok leave the booze convo out ) but, I've gotta ask. What kind is it you're enjoying there...???

 

Toyota didn't cheap out....they did what they could to keep the truck at their desired price point.

My last car was a 2015 LR4. Leather all around, front and back heated seats. Rain sensor. Adaptive cruise. Adaptive headlights. Parking sensors all around. Overhead, rear and side cameras. AMAZING sound system. And only 65k out the door. Unless you want to pay A lot more than the 30-35k for the average Tacoma, Toyota has to cut back somewhere...

For parking in tight garage, (roof lazer) they sell em everywhere, cheap and effective!

It's actually because of repair value.

The rear bumper sections are less costly to replace than the front bumper cover. So Toyota opted not to put sensors in the front bumper cover to capitalize on the replacement part market.
