    Even if he did, this takes place 30 some odd years after Return of the Jedi which was how many years after the Clone Wars? He'd be very old.

    I do agree with @tcBob that Finn may be his relative. Its confusing because I could have sworn the shiny storm trooper mentioned clone genes or something but Finn was "stolen" from his family... Can someone with a fresh memory help me out here; was he definitively stolen or is he a clone? Sloppy script writing or am I completely off the mark here? Most of the dialog was mind numbing for me and I tuned much of it out.

    Good news! Now they have to fire the writers as well. Although it will be hard to salvage this.

    Wanna know what scene i just remembered that kind of pissed me off?

    The scene where Finn battles the storm trooper that calls him "traitor!"; Finn busts out the all-powerful light saber (think ep.1 when Quai-gon stick his light saber through a door and causes it to melt), and then the storm trooper busts out a weapon that shields against light saber strikes?! What weapon is strong enough to defend against a light saber? Someone please explain.

    Any chance Finn could be a mole for the First Order?

    Again, just spit-balling but it would be a pretty good plot twist for him to be a spy who has gained the confidence of the Resistance by "saving" Poe and helping them. It's been 5 days since I saw it but I don't distinctly recall him doing much more than battle a few of his fellow Stormtroopers. How much did he help with destroying Starkiller Base? In any case, he's pretty well embedded in the confidence of the Resistance now....

    That was a very awkward scene. Not sure what JJ was trying to do there but it didn't propel the plot any further and was anti climatic when Han (or was it Chewie) shot the storm trooper. Maybe that was Finn facing his past and battling his demons? Maybe it was his "closure" as a storm trooper.

    If this was the case, he didn't get much gratification as he lost pretty handily and was saved by Han/Chewie. Funny how Ren had more trouble with him than this trooper with a tacticool night stick. I don't know.

    Yeah, that "electric disco nightstick" was a bit cheesy. It didn't seem to hurt that much when Finn was hit pretty square in the chest...

    Via Wookieepedia: Some vibroweapons had a cortosis weave, therefore weakening its overall strength as an alloy, but giving it the capability to block lightsaber blows. They tended not to be pure cortosis ore.

    I tend to use Wookieepedia a lot, since I refuse to delve into the expanded universe.

    Srs. Not sure if I'm down to do all that research and reading. I will watch the movies and just recently started watching the clone wars series on netflix as just something i watch before bed.. but I don't see myself buying all these comics/books.

    Same. The wife and I usually watch tv together and she's definitely not gonna watch the Clone Wars....not that I really want to, anyway lol.

    I've never been into comics.

    I read countless hours for law school and the last fucking thing I'm gonna do is read if I don't have to lol

    I'll stick to the movies and that's it. I do enjoy researching character and plot histories on my own, though.

    Enter some Star Wars nerd knowledge: Storm Troopers aren't clones. The empire stopped using clones and switched over to an all volunteer, human-only, military force after the Republic fell. The silver storm trooper (Captain Phasma) brings up "going back to clones" because they don't have these problems. It can be surmised from that same conversation that Storm Troopers are sent to a facility for "reprogramming" somewhat regularly (They have a facility for it) and that this is Finn's first offense, and thus that it isn't that uncommon occurrence for these soldiers to have a change of heart or otherwise be insubordinate. The First Order isn't the Empire, and are more akin to Nazis (thus the obvious parallel that didn't exist with the Empire). A careful review of Palpatine's actions in all 6 movies and the Empire's actions in the original trilogy could paint the Empire's existence as more benevolent than not. The First Order being so obviously evil fixes that problem and sets the tone for the rest of the series.

    For what it's worth, the only stuff that is now "officially" lore (per Disney, who now owns Star Wars) is the 6 movies and the Clone Wars animated series. Anything else in the expanded universe is basically fan fiction (which it really was anyways), so there's no reason to research it at all.
