This is not a V8 so you are not going to get much trying to hop it up N/A.

I'm kind of at a "why not" point with it. I think it will be fun to do and it's certainly unique.

There's people making 400whp+ on NA vq35's no problem. I made it to 310whp and just needed a fuel pump, itbs, and a bigger cam to make it ~380-400. Just because it isn't a v8 doesn't mean it isn't worth shit NA. Subbed to this because I wanna see what it turns into.

I'm not going for 400 whp. Kinda shooting for the 200 mark at the wheel.

This is a radical project! People with the courage to build a 2tr are few and far between.

I personally love 4 cylinder engines. The 2tr should have a lot of potential, 2.7 liters is sizeable for a 4. DOHC, forged bottom end, high compression (I think it's around 10:1), that's the kinda stuff you see on sports cars. With the proper tune and engine management I'll bet this could be a strong motor. You might have to go with a fully programmable universal ecu. I think urd makes something like that.

I'm thinking of going with an HKS or a haltech ecu and just doing a total custom tune.

Butt dyno results in: making a bit more power. Not dramatic by any means but noticeable. Test pipe is worth it if you've got the 150~ bucks to throw at a rear sensor simulator.

Hope you have deep pockets, cause testing and redoing it's going to get time consuming and expensive for one of a kind. Then you'll won't like it, cause either the cam, piston, or ECU just it's quite running right. You'll take a big loss on trying to sell it to someone, especially one of a kind modification.

And that's why I'm yanking the stock engine and putting it on a pallet. I'm also still waffling on the cams- the vvti should be able to do what I want my cams to do. Honestly sinking money into it doesn't bother me. It's only money, right?

It's only money it's your money you earn it, enjoy what you're doing if you can afford it. You are putting away in a 401K at least 15% of your pay right?

Their was a question thrown out if you were 18 put in 15% of your pay for 10 years and stopped. Someone else started at 28 put in 15% till 65 (35 years) who have the most. It was the first guy cause of the accumulated interest. Your starting down the wrong path my friend. All the stuff they feed us in High School, it's sad nothing about basic stuff like personal income and savings. I'm retired and living comfortably, but if I had to do it again it would have been buying apts, and rental property. Great way to build wealth!
