Hello guys. I just recently got a tacoma and love it. I came from a subaru which had all-wheel drive, so I'm new to the 4 wheel system. Recently I noticed a loud bang, it shook the truck a bit, when shifting from 4h to 2w in a parking lot. I did have the wheels turned, but is this normal? Any body else expierence this?

You probably heard the noise from having the wheels turned on dry pavement while being in 4H. Check pages 244-247 of your owners manual.

Most likely normal. Mine has a slight clunk when disengaging the front differential.

Willing to bet that in the exact same circumstance but had wheels turned straight that there would be no clunk.

I found that the more you engage and dis-engage the smoother quieter and quicker the truck shifts in and out of 4wd. I always stop the truck when going from 4WD LO to 4WD Hi and shift out of 4WD Hi while driving down the road. My truck was noisy (clunk) shifting but the more I use the 4WD the less noise and WAY smoother shifting. When we first started using the 4WD LO it would sometimes not shift and I had to throw shift into N or R and the truck would finally get it right. Now it's quick and smooth going both directions.

The clunk is often still heard even if you are going straight. Normal and not harmful.

If you weren't going straight, sometimes 4WD would simply refuse to disengage.

^You haven't used 4WD often enough on your Taco. ;) Can't speak for Jeeps as the T-case design is different.

Need to keep your wheels straight when either engaging or disengaging 4wd. No clunking is good when it comes to a drivetrain.
