So, picked up a transmission and t-case for my 4wd conversion.

Trans is from a 96 4Runner with ADD.

My question is, this solenoid/actuator on the t case, is it for the ADD?

I'm going manual upfront so won't be doing an ADD parts at all.

This one did have the 4wd button.

What do I have to do to this t-case if I'm going manual up front?

My truck won't have the wiring to plug the actuator into anything.

    Ughhhhh.

Really thought the front diff and hubs was all that made a difference in the manual/ADD trucks.

You're sounding like the issues I ran in to.
I ended up with an Inch Worm 4.7 Lefty... 100% manual. Diamond axle (going SAS as I type) has manual hubs too. Zero electronics for my full blown swap.

I should be receiving pics from Brian @ 4WU soon. Once I get them, I'll post. If you have any questions, PM me.

    Good luck.

I'd love to have the money to buy a brand new t case.

But I really like the idea of using oem parts

I suggest calling Jim @ Low Range Off Road or, Marlin or Big Mike @ Marlin Crawler.

    Good luck.

I am running a 99 4Runner Trans with push button TC on my conversion. I bought a connector for the TC and wired up a DPDT switch i the cab. The connector has 5 wires in it i believe, I think I remember. The motor on the back of the TC is for actuating the TC, the 4wd ecu does the timing for the add/tc engaging. Since you won't be using that, you can just just wire it up.

1 wire turns the actuator motor one direction until it grounds out
1 wire turns the actuator motor the other direction until it grounds out
    1 wire is a ground
1 wire gets power when it's in 2wd
1 wire gets power when it's in 4wd

Using the DPDT switch with a relay will allow you to switch power to the actuator wires to go into and out of 4wd. Basically the switch swaps power and ground depending on which way the switch is being pushed. I wired the relay to power up when I push the button on the side of the TC shifter. I have a wiring diagram somewhere if you are interested in looking at it. I think i can find the connector PN's as well.

Wow. And I looked for something likes this tirelessly and never found it.

A wiring diagram would be great! Also where could I buy the connector you said you bought?

And how exactly do you use it all?

You have the push button on the shifter, which is N, 2H, and 4L.

    And also a DPDT switch.

So in my head I'm picturing you turning it on with the switch on the shifter.

Moving the shifter to say, 2H.

Then flipping the switch the corresponding direction.

Then moving into 4L, you flip the switch the other way.

    Is that correct?

I'm not sure when the 4Runner AWD system started, but I know my buddy has an 02 4Runner, and it has the same push button 4wd. His 4R can be 2wd, then he pushes the 4wd button and he is AWD, and he also has a center diff lock for 4wd. He also has the manual lever for low range.

No not quite. Ok so you have 3 selections on the TC, 4L N and 4H. BUT 4H is only 4H when the TC is actuated into 4wd, when it's not it's 2H. Technically with straight wiring the TC you can get 2L by slipping the shifter into 4L. You basically have 2 systems running together. 1 is physically shifting H and L and the other is electronically shifting 2 and 4 wd.

I will have to go and take a picture of the wiring diagram as I can't find it right now. It makes more sense when you can see it.

If you go with Inch Worm or Marlin Crawler's 4.7 Lefty, zero electronics involved. No wiring involved. This is the #1 reason why I went with them.
