Okay, saw the movie last night, just waded through all the previous posts. I may have missed someone posting this, and if I did, forgive me. But when Rey was having her vision, you saw her as a little girl holding the hand of an unidentified adult, crying as a ship left the planet. I don't get the feeling she was abandoned as much as she was hidden, a la Luke and Leia to get them away from Anakin. When Kylo was interrogating her, he spoke of her vision of an island surrounded by a lot of water, which we later see when she goes looking for Luke.

I think this might indicate that she'd been there before, perhaps being a Jedi in training. If she was sent into hiding, perhaps in the ensuing years her past became a dim memory? Then when Kylo used the force when questioning her, is it possible that he reawakened the force, and prior training, within her?

As for who's daughter she is, if it turns out that Leia and Han are her parents, it would be a parallel to what we know about Luke and Leia. Was she sent into hiding to save her from her older, out of control brother? The meeting between Rey and Leia, after Han's death would seem to indicate that there was a familiarity there. Mother-daughter...Aunt-niece?

One other possibility is that she could be Obi-Wan's granddaughter. I know there has been no mention in previous movies of him having children, but such surprising, out of left field revelations have been common in previous chapters.

Also, count me in as one who thinks Finn does not have the force. All in all, 2 thumbs up. I liked it a lot.

Read this random response on Facebook that I totally agree with:

"Force awakens is a very entertaining movie that's not without its issues.

People who love Force Awakens are reacting to the characters, dialogue, actors, and visual look - all of which were wonderful (vastly better than the prequels and on par with the original trilogy.)

People who hate Force Awakens are reacting to the plot holes (a few of which are real head scratchers) and how there are so many (maybe too many) parallels to episode 4."

Very true. I think the vast majority of franchise fans were a little disappointed because TFA acted more like a standalone movie that had no prequels. As a movie itself, it was great. When comparing it to what we already know from 4-6, we get disappointed.

This may be exactly what they want from us though. They knew the bar would be high due to Episodes 1-3 being utter disasters. Out of everyone in here, whether you like TFA or not, who is NOT going to see Episode 8 the first week it comes out? They left us with so much we're going to be talking about it until the new one comes out, which we're gonna beat the doors down to see when it comes time.

The only complaint I have is all the advertising and marketing they've done; it's gotten to the point where it's cheesy. Why the fuck would you brand a Star Wars vacuum cleaner?!

Didn't even think about that. In how she could've just been a youngling and they hid her away from Ren. That's a much better theory that also gets away from the typical StarWars how everybody is related

On Snoke, I'm still leaning towards the theory that Plageuis didn't actually die when Sidious "killed" him. They went out of their way to explain to us that he had mastered death itself. This could explain the disfigurement.

What do you guys think about Snoke? Where did he come from?

God I hope not! They should have never used Samuel L Jackson in the Star Wars films.

We've covered the theory that Kylo might actually be doing this to gain the favor of Snoke, only to ultimately kill him, right? I think someone in this thread mentioned it.

Yea, I mentioned it. Won't take credit though, since it was one of my coworker's theories. But it seems possible.

I don't see anyway that is possible. He wiped out all of the other Jedi's training under Luke, and then killed Han. If Anakin murdered all of the younglings at the Jedi temple then killed Sidious and walked up to Yoda/Mace and said "I did that to gain the favor of Sidious and then I killed him" That just doesn't make any sense.

According to who? Who would have known besides Luke and Ben?

Yes, he did. But consider that just before doing that, he said something to the effect of 'I know what I have to do, but I don't know if I have the strength to do it', and asks for Han's help. Han says 'anything'. Ren then kills Han. The thing that Ren needed, was to be able to kill Han, to prove his loyalty to Snoke and the dark side.

Also keep in mind, that he says 'I'll finish what you started' when looking at Vader's helmet. What Vader started, back when he was the chosen one as Anikin, was to eliminate all Sith and restore balance to the force. He kind of fucked it all up by becoming Vader, but remember that he did redeem himself by killing Darth Sidious in the end.

I will admit that it's not super compelling evidence, but there is some, and it would make for a hell of a plot twist.

I like this theory... The conversation with Han before killing him adds to its plausibility.

I thought it was pretty good. Ended up seeing it a second time today, you definitely pick up on stuff you dont catch the first time. Id recommend seeing it a second time for anyone who hasn't. First time i saw it was in 3D then today was not, personally i liked it better without the 3D.

Im really undecided on who I think Rey is related to but I'm leaning toward the idea that she was left on Jakku by someone important to protect her, whether it was family, jedi, or some new character we have yet to meet, i think we will find out in the next movie. If i had to guess i think she was one of the Jedis Luke was training that he saved from Kylo. If you watch carefully during the "lightsaber flashback" i think thats where all our good clues are going to come from like possibly seeing what could be the Knights of Ren and Rey as a young girl. The only thing making me uneasy about that is when Maz told her "whoever your waiting for isn't coming back" to me this says her families dead but she also says "when you live long enough you see the same eyes in different people" and this me think she could be related to someone we have met before whether it be Luke, Han or Obi.

I read somewhere the new director made a comment that he is taking Starwars somewhere its never been before. so we will see what that means.

It's talked about quite a bit..

Why did Ben Solo become Kylo Ren?

We know that Ben Solo, son of Han Solo and Leia Organa, was one of Luke Skywalker’s pupils until Supreme Leader Snoke turned him to the dark side and he murdered his fellow students. But why? What did Snoke say to him? Why was Ben so untrusting of Luke, his parents and the light side? These questions will almost certainly become the crux of the next few movies.

    http://io9.gizmodo.com/33-questions-we-desperately-want-answered-after-star-wa-1748953034

    Co-Writer Michael Arndt:

“We came up with a backstory that Luke had a pupil who turned against him and fought him, and killed all the other pupils, and that was a thing that exploded the family and destroyed Han and Leia’s relationship,” Arndt said.
