Yes they are being produced now but not expected to be delivered until around the mid to end of January here in my area. I will probably wait until spring to buy if I get one. I've always had tonneau covers on previous trucks.

That looks real nice, I like the black glass look. What does that run for a LB?

My dealer quoted me $1900 to 2500 depending on options for the top model 100XQ on my SB.

$1900 doesn't seem that steep, considering they say the 100XQ series are worth the money. Are these things fairly easy to remove when needed or do u need to take it to the shop every time?

It weighs around 150-180 pounds so yes you can take it off yourself and 3 of your friends/family to help, also you don't want to set it on the ground directly, you need sawhorses or a stand for it when off the truck.

So 150-180 pounds is like having 1 more passenger with you all the time. So maybe mpg is not affected so much. I've already accepted that its not getting the best mpg.

It won't improve your mileage, but probably won't deteriorate mpg much. There will be more turbulence at the tailgate area which will theoretically reduce your mpg but as someone else said all that stuff stays dry and secure in the back and it's worth it.

I have never owned a cap before but I'm starting to really see a lot of use for it now. I have to decide if I like the look or now. I'm still up in the air with that.

But I think it would be great for my dogs when I go hiking and places.

Regarding the leaks...I checked out a truck on the lot yesterday and remembered when I was chasing leaks on my old tonneau cover. Those plastic covers the OEMs put on the bed rails were a problem. I had a solid seal on parts of my cover and water got through by blowing underneath the rail covers. They're far from a perfect fit and when the weight of the cap is distributed out, there isn't enough PSI to push down the hard plastic. Folks might want to look at removing them before installing their cap. Maybe having a Line-X cap sprayed on first to protect the mating surface.

I have to tell you I really did not like the look of my truck with the cap at first, but it was well worth it. It was awesome for keeping my stuff safe and dry. Plus it was awesome for my dog! I got pet screens on mine, and that also added a bit of security for when the windows were open on it. After a while I began to like the look.

As someone who bought an ARE V series with side window-doors for work, and because I like the rugged look of the utilitarian doors and handles, I must say, the Leer pictured above with the more "SUV style" look, looks much better than the equivalent ARE Z series, and at $1900 seems much more affordable than the similar SUV style ARE topper.

That being said, toppers do have many advantages, and very few disadvantages from my experience. I have had a 2012 Double Cab Short bed, and now a 2016 DCSB, both with toppers, and the only downside i can find to not having a topper, is that i can't have a skid loader or tractor dump mulch or compost right into the bed. But, especially with a short bed, i can usually just hand shovel it full with mulch of whatever without too much work. A few 8 foot sheets of drywall, plywood, or 2x4s etc can just sit on the closed tailgate and wheel wells with the topper door closed and really no need for tie downs, even with the short bed. Being able to lock up the contents of your bed, even if it is completely full to the ceiling of the topper, is VERY CONVENIENT. Without an interior topper liner or carpeting, you can just park it so the tailgate faces downhill, and spray it out with a hose, and it will come basically completely clean. More storage space and a level space on top to the topper for ladders, etc.

Kind of hard putting a refrigerator, washer, and dryer in the back with a truck cap on. Full size mattress set sucks trying to put in the bed also. If a guy had a trailer hitch all would be good in the world. U-Haul is always close by to rent a trailer.

I have an application question about a topper on the SB taco, I love going to a couple different fishing spots locally with my kayak. The kayak is 12 ft long and I can haul it pretty easily in my SB with a load extender support installed in the hitch receiver. I was thinking of getting a topper with a rack, either yakima or thule depending on the brand of topper. The question is on the SB the rails would only be about 4-4 1/2 ft apart and with a 12 ft kayak that may not work very well going down the road. Anyone with any experience using these rails on the SB with longer objects; ladders, kayaks, or whatever?
