OK. 125 posts about an isolated problem. My oil level has not moved in 5,000 miles and I just changed the oil. I'm calling my 2GR-FKS good for the next 350,000 miles. At least that's what I expect, then again I left Nissan for this so my expectations are high.

With the thin oil I have a hard time seeing it on the dipstick. I may try putting it in with the measuring lines on the opposite side of the bend in the tube.

Scooter, if you leave it in a little longer then its easier to see when its a little dirty!!! Changing it every time you fart is going to get expensive!

Ive got a 2gr in a 08 highlander, 75k miles. Just replaced water pump, other than that no issues great motor. A little bit of a bitch to get to the water pump, but in the sienna, same motor requires an engine removal just to replace a $150 water pump.

Sam, I have only 426 miles on my truck since I picked it up on 11/9/15. Not getting the oil changed till one year ownership and every year on or about November 9th. Dealer said bring it in 6 months from purchase date so they can check to see if all the nuts/bolts are still tight.

Place a paper towel to the bottom of the stick and let the oil transfer. Lift the paper to the side to see where the oil is on the stick.

Yup. I've done water pumps as early as 58k miles. I'd say thats the most common thing that gets replaced, is water pumps. Did a Prius water pump the other day at 68k, tons and tons of 4 cyl water pumps.

Anyway, I know my post about this engine is most likely an extremely isolated condition, but I thought you guys might find it interesting reading as the story progresses, to see how Toyota handles things. So far, a short block is upwards of around $4,800, complete engine assembly is $28,000, and apparently extremely tough to get. Gasket set is still 3-4 weeks out.

At that point you might as well trash it and get a new truck.

They do... they just bought a new truck that is sitting at a dealer for days/weeks/months on end, while they make payments without use of their truck.

Not to mention the hack work the techs will do... potential issues that will arises from swapping motors, among other cosmetic collateral damage

Shwwww. That would be crazy. I like my truck and all but there is no way I'd spend that kinda coin to replace the engine unless I was doing a swap to something much bigger and better.

They paid for the truck and one engine. They don't pay to have a motor replaced under warranty. None of which is my concern anyway. That's between the owner and Toyota.

IIRC the V8 from the last gen M3 was something like 45k on a 60k car.
