Yeah, the motor is fine. The tranny though...that could use a little re-mapping.

Doggman, here is an interesting bit of information. May help to clarify things a bit. I'd be inclined to look into the ACIS (Acoustic Controlled Intake System) and its timing before I'd try and disable the quasi Atkinson cycle. Although I really don't think its doing us any favors in the power dept. Typically the energy that the Atkinson cycle is utilizing for efficiency we would normally use to aid in performance by way of valve overlap and scavenging, but sadly that is not a green concept. Have a look at the bore and stroke of this engine and see how immensely oversquare it is, there is no doubt that it want to perform best in the higher rpms. This engine is really just a big motorcycle engine. However, there is nothing wrong with that once that fact is accepted and we treat it as such, I'm sure there is plenty of untapped power hidden in this engine. I say, lower the compression to 9:1 and boost it 25psi and let her eat!

not sure why you want to disable it but maybe a piggyback unit can help with that....something like how the ucon works

I admire your dreams, however as stated previously, you cannot tune Toyota computers like that, not even with the software we have here at the dealerships.

Your 550+ HP G8 is also much lower to the ground than your TRD OR and has a different aerodynamic profile than the truck as well. Hence the awesome MPG for a V8.

I do miss the additional MPG my GTO used to get at 450 HP.

zero benefit? hardly. this cycle is probably to blame for every single engine failure as a result of burnt valves. atkinson cycle is not all it's cracked up to be and really only reduces power, thankfully it's not really an atkinson cycle engine, all it really does is overlap intake/exhaust valves, a true atkinson cycle engine would have some super complex (and unreliable) crankshaft...oh toyota's design of overlapping valves is supposed to be like an egr valve except it doesn't do that for some reason...sure it's mostly only during cruise or idle...not heavy throttle...but it's not good tech and is best turned off. I think ovatune disables it or at least alters its functionality to basically make it disabled...don't quote me, I couldn't find anything on that officially. either way, atkinson cycle 3.5's are best with that cycle disabled
