Thanks for the feedback dude and congrats on your new truck! I'm hard capped at $34K for the truck to keep my monthly payment manageable, which I told the dealer. I might try to get them to get me under $34K. You bring up a good point about title fees (beyond Doc fee), don't know if they'll tack on a title fee for buying in Mass (I'm an NH resident, no taxes, just a $25 NH title fee).

I'm going to send out to the other dealerships that this is my offer and see what they can do (and use that to see if this dealership will drop beyond that).

I went to my dealer and asked for the total price: Tax, Title, Fees, whatever... the final price I would walk into the finance office planing to pay. Don't talk about a trade in (if you have one) or down payment... just the out the door cost. Have them write it up and walk out with that. They will want a deposit.. that's their problem. You get the price and walk away.

If you have a trade in... take it to Carmax or someplace similar if available to you. Don't sell it... just get the quote. They give you a written quote that's good for 7 days. Walk with that.

Now you can go to the dealer with numbers in hand... which you will have researched better. You can email or text a salesman (they will toss their numbers at you all day long) to tell them where you expect the price to be. If they quote you a new number... get that in writing when you go back. Only after you have nailed down the price do you finally talk about your trade in. If they don't give you the Carmax price... go to Carmax. If you like the truck price you have... lock the deal with a deposit (usually a credit card hold of about $500).

Either way... once you have a deal in place, your down payment or trade in (or both), and your ready to buy... talk finance. They will have offered you their financing. That's fine because in the end they will probably be the cheapest money. However you should wait to apply. Keep that carrot out there as its one of the money makers for them. When you get to the "buy" point is when you tell the sales manager you're probably going to use your bank since they are offering a great rate. (Check rates on bankrate.com or similar and give them the best rate you find there). Tell them you don't mind applying for the dealer financing to compare the rates. Chances are, they will beat the rate you told them (assuming you have good credit... you do have good credit right? If not may I suggest working on credit BEFORE buying a new car).

So now you have a deal, a trade in value you can live with, maybe some cash to add, and a locked rate for financing. Now you go to the dealer to get the truck. The finance office is the last hurdle. Many "amazing deals" have gone here to be fattened for slaughter and then killed. This is where you sit down with a guy who understands the car game well beyond you. This "master of the game" will probably congratulate you and your deal. He will talk about the features of your warranty, oil changes, etc. He will then... if you let him... start explaining your stuff and how you can extend it. If you say no to something he will adjust your rate so its the same payment... he will extend your loan to make the payments lower... he will practically give you a back rub to relax you before selling you thousands of dollars of stuff you never wanted, don't necessarily need, and probably won't ever be able to put a true value on. He isn't a bad guy... he is a salesman. He isn't tricking you... you are an adult.

Best thing to do in the finance office:

1 - Say no thanks to everything and point to your watch... "I have to meet some people for a thing"
2 - Research in advance and know exactly what products you want
3 - Sit through all of the sales pitches and keep saying no for however long it takes.

Read contracts... they are very simplified these days. Don't rush through signing. Look at the numbers and keep double checking them to ensure no new fees appear.

That's how I worked my latest deal. Good luck

Sticky worthy reply man. Many thanks. I went back and forth with several dealers today but called time since it was Christmas eve. Will let you know how my efforts go on Friday/Saturday. So far, I've cut the price down to $33943 OTD ($35448 + ~$395 doc fee). One dealer said that was invoice price when you include the TDA fee, which I've still found that dealers in my region strictly consider as part of the invoice price.

    Merry Christmas!

Update: Put a hold deposit on the truck for $33,793 otd!

I worked my deal a little differently. I went to a dealership and told them what I wanted (DCSB 4X4 OR), I think msrp for this model was $35,883 with tow package and premium mats. They told me when they could get it in, appraised my trade (06 Tacoma, 114k miles), and I gave them a $500 refundable deposit to hold it (arrival of Sept 30, 2015). This dealership offered me $7500 for my trade.

I had already secured financing with my bank for a decent rate so I knew what number I had to be at. I wanted 10k of a discount between my trade and subtraction from msrp. I didn't care where it came from.

I went to dealer #2 and said "this is what I want". The guy didn't take me seriously at first, but he said the soonest truck incoming was Sept 30, but that it was sold already through another dealer. I said "yeah to me" he laughed, I whipped out my offer letter from dealer 1, my financing letter and told them I wanted a total of 10k off. They talked and gave me the 10k, gave me the floor mats and window tinting for free.

Another note, if you can get financing before going to the dealer DO IT! The dealer will try like hell to beat your rate, and for me, it was by a point and a half (from 3.5->1.99) Could I have negotiated and gotten more off the msrp? Probably. But, I got what I wanted and was happy with, plus received one of the first '16s in the Austin area.

TDA is part of the dealers invoice. They pay the invoice price for the truck, or their financiers pays, and they pay TDA on top of that so Toyota can advertise for them. If they sell you a truck at invoice, they will have to add the TDA because holdback will barely cover TDA in most regions

So, been negotiating with different dealers through email and their chat feature.
Currently I have one dealer offering $35,488 OTD for 2016 TRD OFF ROAD DCSB with premium and tech non JBL.
I offered $35,000 out the door with JBL.
Never thought id go up as high as 35 but I realized that my original 30K plan with all the bells and whistles is silly.

What do you guys think of the quote ? I appreciate all the input as this is my first time buying a taco and a brand new truck.

Definitely 4wd, I should add that no taxes and 1000$ rebate from Toyota for financing with them.

They have a $1000 finance rebate, hmm. I've been lurking a 2016 at my dealer, might help push me that way. Just can't come to having a DCSB.

The 1k financing is for military but a buddy of mine was able to get the same financing rebate and he's a civilian.
What do you have now ?
This is my first Tacoma and first new truck, I might take that deal they are offering.
Now gotta decide on the color haha

I think that is a great price from the dealer. I have a similar offer from my local dealer right now for a DCSB TRD OR 4X4 AT with tech/prem, tow, tonneau, all weather mats, and toyo care. Their offer OTD was $36,031. I am having them remove the toyo care, which should drop the offer down to about $35,400 or so (give or take a few dollars as I am not sure how much the toyo care is exactly). $35,400 OTD is good enough for me, so I will be doing the paperwork in a few days and should have the truck by next week. I tried the JBL route, but I would essentially have to order the truck and wait about 6-8 weeks and add another $700 to the OTD price.

Regardless, best of luck to you and I think you are getting a good deal!

Sounds like you're getting the same deal, mine does not include the tonneau cover tho, thinking about that or a tool box, not sure yet.
Toyota care is free where I'm at and the lifetime power train warranty. Are you in NC ?
I might skip the JBL, I listen to country and rock so don't really think it matters that much.
What color did you go with ?
    Good luck to you too

I do live in NC. Toyo care was about a $600 add-on with my dealer, but they can remove it. I would have to check the spec sheet again for the exact price. I don't get the lifetime warranty since there is only one Toyota dealer in the area that offers it and they were way out of touch on their offers. I will just get an extended warranty through USAA when the time comes.

I skipped the JBL for the same reasons. I listen to mostly country and the stock radio in my '14 does fine. If I want to upgrade later then I will.

I am going with the Magnetic Gray. It was between that and the silver. I love both colors on the taco, but always do double takes when I see an MGM drive by... :)

My dealer is in TN, Wyatt Johson, thought I'd mention it if it's not too far from where you're at in NC.
Yea stock radio is always fine to me.
I also will be getting the MGM, it was between that and the quicksand. Quicksand is just too militarysh and a break from that is nice haha

Good luck bro, make sure you post some pics when you get it, I'll do the same

If you live near Round Rock, TX north of Austin, the Toyota dealer there gave me invoice for the 4x4 Limited I now own. Worth checking out at least plus if you tell them I referred you I get a 100 bucks :). But seriously, walked in, paid what I asked for and left an hour and 45 minutes later. Already had a check ready though. Out the door I paid 21500 after 18000 down. Mine came with everything, the protectant, predator tubes, and upgraded mats plus whatever else that protection plus package has.

That is definitely a great deal. Are they offering any kind of Texas edition for the Tacomas in TX ?

I've seen posts in the Texas section of them but I haven't seen them personally. Not even sure what the dealer would add to make them a "Texas Edition".
