Hey guys and gals. I did a search about "spray painting wheels" and has some success but wanted to see the way to go about doing it: what kind of spray paint? clear coate? the best way to spray the wheels?
I'm concerned with the paint being chipped after time.

    thanks

    I wouldn't.

They always look like crap, and then you can't get much to re-sell them after the mistake.

If you want something else, save up to cash get them (used even it thats what works for you) and then sell yours to help to re-coup some of the cost of the replacments.

I dont agree. I have done mine and 4 other sets. People think I got them powdercoated they look so good. I just did derekabrahams yesterday. Wetsand, 3 coats rustoleum self etching primer, 3 or 4 coats of rustoleum black wheel paint and your good to go. You cab spray clear if you want. I didnt because I dont want the shine and like to be able to touch them up after wheeling.

My son and I did his wheels with Duplicolor Adhesion promotor and then Duplicolor High performance wheel paint in flat black and they came out real nice, no issues. Clean the wheels good and sand its all in the prep.

The way I would do is this way cause I hate totally flat black

    1. go buy a product called final scuff made by ppg , then get a grey scotch brite pad
    2. with your water hose on low scub the wheels using the grey scoth brite pad adding final scuff to it ( I promise you will never ever be able to sand them as good as this in 5 mins per wheel )

    3. let dry then mask
4 paint them with a product called DP90 made by ppg ( this will give you a killer bk egg shell finish ,not to mention its ppgs chip resistance system they use on there race cars its pracally bullet proof )

    4. un mask enjoy
I have been a professinal car painter for a lot of my life

Yeah...Everyone hit it already....If you spend the time to prep and let the paint cure you'll be fine. Mine look great- almost 1.5 years later-I get tons of complements. So the blanket "they look like crap" was ill-educated.

Clean them, prep well, and then let the paint dry between coats as recommended on the can and let them dry properly before you try to wheel them or whatever.

Clear coat is your option-as is paint color/finish. You can find pretty much anything you want.
