Weather Tech Mud Guards for the '16 Installed

On Monday I saw that they were shipping and as we cannot seem to be able to get the OEM I jumped on these. I had them on my F150 and they worked great so I do not see why they would not work for the Taco.

They were very easy to install with a couple things that the destruction's do not cover but nothing that cannot be easily overcome. First: It says for the front to turn the wheels full to the left, I found it easier to turn them to the right, YMMV I did not have to remove the wheels.

SECOND: In the destruction's it says to remove the three 10mm bolts and keep to reuse. Done. Now it then says to locate the factory hole and use the supplied 10mm bolt. This is for the mounting position inboard in the wheel well. After I found said hole I thought that the plug needed to be removed so that the supplied bolt could be used. This is where it should be noted "NOT" to remove the plug in said factory hole, if you do there will be nothing for the supplied bolt to attach to. Just line the hole on the mud guard and the supplied 10mm will self tap and secure it to the wheel well. Since I thought the plug was to be discarded when I came out I did not take care in its removal. I went to the dealer this morning and got a replacement plug for $1.12 and mounted the inboard bolt correctly.

Had it not been for the time it took me to realize that I did not have to remove the plug the mug guards would have taken me 20 minutes to install. Here are a few pics.










Im running OEM size tires 265 65 17 on the Fuel Trophy 8.5" wheel with a -6 offset and no rubbing. Any questions just ask and if more pics are needed I can snap a few.

Looks good, and the price is right. Was looking at rockblockz, but couldn't get past the price. Might have to do the WT mud flaps.

Those look great. It appears they do not wrap around the side of the fender so no chance on scratching up the paint there when they get flexed, am I seeing that right? Any comments of flexibility? Do they seem like they'll be pliable and not just rip off?

 

I picked them up directly from Weather Tech. As for the flexibility, they are fairly rigid so I guess that could prove to be an issue especially if you do a lot of wheelin'

That is why they are called Mud Guards instead of Mud Flaps. Flaps are flimsy.

 

After seeing these installed on your truck, I may have to order them. The other pics I've seen didn't do it for me. Thanks for the pics.

 

I received and installed mine this morning. It took about 20minutes. As stated above they are fairly rigid but should be durable. I'm not sure why the OP decided to remove the threadable plug when it says nowhere in the instructions to do so. Maybe he just got case of the xmas excitement jitters. It should be noted that they are held on with a metal screw in a plastic hole so care should be taken when torquing them down. If you strip them out it wouldn't be hard to just use a nut and bolt to hold them on. Might be better that way in the long run.

 

I'm jealous ! They look great, but I have a "no-flare" SR5 and the WT's won't be ready for a few more weeks.

Here's mine....took about 15 minutes...VERY easy!

 

did you have to remove the front wheel or does turning it all the way leave enough room to get the inner bolt on?

I pulled the plug for the inner bolt thinking it was similar to when I put the running boards on. There was a plug in the hole where the bolts that mounted the brackets were. But not the case in this point. >shrugs<

I was able to do both fronts with the wheel turned all the way to the right. I used my 1/4'' socket wrench with a 10mm socket. Plenty of room. Don't get all excited and start removing unnecessary stuff like Sir James.

 

They are a little "stiffer" than I anticipated but I needed something before winter arrives...they can't b any worse than the factory installed ones on my 2006 Prerunner....they ripped off after the first snow!

 

I ordered mine, oem mud guards from toyota of dallas, trdparts4u.com and got them in a matter of days. $63 plus shipping. They look just like the weathertechs and installed in 10 minutes.

anybody got a full side or wide angle picture with the weather techs? look great! just ordered after first snowstorm this year and 1 day really shows how badly needed these mud flaps are.
