I noticed the recent wording change as well and may go with another brand. The Pro comp 3" on the white taco above looks sick!

Hey man by chance were you running UCAs with the icons? Maybe that would make a difference? What are you looking to get for the icon set up? Incase I decide to try to make it work.

Has anyone tried a king oem set up yet? I got a deal on some rear shocks with resis off CL I can pick up for $350 I was thinking about picking up an aal and and some king coilovers up front but I'm not sure wich ones would give the most lift without a stiff ride.

I have used Icon and Camburg coil overs on my 03 Tacoma (approx 190K miles combined), to hold up an ARB bumper & winch so they were good for the added weight but stiff with very little up travel. I've seen guys get much better articulation out of their front end with OME front shocks & coils with winch & A/M bumper.. I have been through a couple sets of OME Dakar's and will be using them on the 2016.. I want to see if ARB is changing anything for the 16 Tacoma. Looks like it's going to be an OME kit with 285's..

Thought about that but feeling mislead. It was originally marketed at a 2016 kit that gave 3" of lift when in fact it was the same as their 2015 lift, which gives 3" of lift for a 2015 and ONLY 2" of max lift for a 2016.

Well, all of this Icon trash talk has sufficiently concerned me, since I ordered the Icon Stage 4 kit a couple weeks ago and it's supposed to arrive at the lift shop the 1st or 2nd week of January, for a January 9th install date. I've contacted the install shop owner and showed him these threads and he's going to contact Icon on Monday. If they can't adequately reassure him (and thereby me) that it's going to do what it's supposed to do, then I'm going to pull the plug on it and go with the Total Chaos UCA's and King Suspension..

Update: In addition to these threads, I was contacted privately and told of another bad experience with the Icon lift. Too much doubt now to drop $3500 on a questionable lift from a company with seemingly questionable customer service. I'm going with the Total Chaos and King now.

    Newbie needs help,

I would like to purchase a set of 18" rims and want to run a 33" toyo open country 33" tire . I would Not mind if they stick out past the fender flares a little. I would prefer it would. I am shopping for a 2016 TRD Sport 2WD DC auto.

Here is what I would like to know?

How much lift do I need to not have any rubbing?

    How much offset ?

    How much back spacing ?

    Thanks

I have an icon stage 2 going on Monday. Sounds like I'm not going to get much front end lift. Considering not installing the add a leaf ?? I don't need it completely level but don't want a huge rake. Suggestions?

I'm planning on the stage 5 and either taking apart the add a leaf, and just installing a few leafs, just to get a level stance, or just dialing the front coil down a bit to sit slightly prerunnerd, and not install the add a leaf until my leafs sag a few years down the road.

Taking apart the leaf. Hadn't thought of that. Seems reasonable. Have any experience with this?

Lots, but not on the '16. Very simple, just need some large c-clamps. I figure with all the stock stuff, and the add a leaf, that's a lot of fine tuning I can do. I'll post up when I do my build, but thats not till feb/march.

Appreciate the help. Gonna have my shop try that. I'm sure they are capable they do a lot of installs. Thanks again for idea. Goal was to install the coil overs out of the box. So is the new thought that will only give me 1" ? Gonna be tight on the 285/70/17. Maybe have to crank them 1/2...?

Most comments here are for lifting the 4WD version of the 2016, I have a 2WD and watched these two vids about a 6.5 inch lift, very good instructional video on installing a MaxTrac lift which costs about 850.00 for parts. Anyone with a 2WD lifted Tacoma here? I would go with the 4 inch front 2 inch rear version, the 6.5 inch looks great but It's just a little too much. What should I look out for if lifting a 2WD, thanks in advance.

I would guess that most trucks that get lifted are only done so for looks, not for additional clearance when off road, and of course to install some bigger tires to make the truck look better. I take my truck off road probably more than half the dudes with a 4WD. I don't need 4WD, so if I can get the look of a nice lifted truck without dealing with the issues related to lifting a 4WD sounds like the way to go for me. You may like having a 4WD, I owned a 1990 Toyota 4WD for 5 years and never once had it in 4WD. So if the lift is for looks, as it is in the majority of instances, what difference does it make if it's 2WD or 4WD?

What do you think the "Prerunner" from Toyota was?
"The more common definition of the word “prerunner” is a 2WD truck that has a lift kit. The Tacoma PreRunner basically matches this description, but a lot of people build prerunners with long-travel suspensions, 500hp motors, etc."
