if ur around paso, hit up moms muffler. Bob should offer to clamp a few mufflers on and let u start the truck after each muffler is clamped. Do this without letting him tell u what brand muffler is on at the time. Let ur ears choose the muffler not ur eyes.... like buying speakers

From the dirt bike world, no one uses K&N. We all use foam filters. K&N filters let so much dirt and dust in.

Also, a muffler might gain you 1 horsepower

meh.... most have highway drone. I had a 40 series and hated the drone..... then a super 44 on 3" piping....finally settled on current setup of short tube headers, urd ypipe, small borla after ypipe, to a Flowmaster super 44 turned down. No drone

I've yet to hear a good exhaust on any generation Taco, there's not many good sounding V6 trucks, pretty much only Nissan due to its VQ engine. The air filter is just going to make noise. and I can assure you guys that trucks with K&N filters get dirty MAFs and Throttle bodies causing fuel trim issues. Tundras with 4.7's REALLY hate K&N's.

As a side note: I've always found Taco's with aftermarket intakes shake the whole cabin and sounds WAY too loud. I'd rather have a functional snorkel.

Let's see, every major car manufacturer or engine builder.

This is directly quoted from GM, whom I've been a tech for a number of years.

    "
The use of an aftermarket oil bath air filter that is excessively over oiled may result in any of the following to occur:

    • The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) may illuminate and a diagnostic trouble code(s) DTC may set.
    • The automatic transmission may shift early and/or late, slipping and/or damaged clutch(es) or band(s).
    • Engine driveability concerns such as but not limited to: poor acceleration from a stop, stumble, rough idle and/or limited engine RPM range.
The oil that is used on the air filter elements may be transferred onto the Mass Air Flow (MAF) or Mass Air Flow/Intake Air Temperature (MAF/IAT) sensor resulting in contamination and poor performance.

This contamination will result in the Grams per Second (GPS) signal and/or the Hertz (Hz) frequency signal from the MAF or MAF/IAT sensor to be skewed, low or generally out of range. The Hertz and/or Grams per Second parameters on the scan tool should be compared to a like vehicle with an OEM air box and air filter under the same driving conditions to verify the cause of the concern.

      • If an aftermarket oil bath air filter is used, the Service Technician should inspect the MAF or MAF/IAT sensor element and the air induction hose for contamination of oil prior to making warranty repairs.
Transmission or engine driveability concerns as a result of the MAF or MAF/IAT sensor being contaminated with oil from the use of an aftermarket oil bath air filter that may be excessively over-oiled are not considered to be warrantable repair items."

that applies to every one I've ever seen. You know whats not overoiled? A dry filter. And they filter better.

First off you must deal with a lot of people who just have no clue and shouldn't do anything aftermarket.

Secondly people on this form take thing to the extreme and not always in a good way. You clean and oil your filter every 15 to 20k unless you're doing lots of off roading. That's 5 times in 100k on average. Plus you also have a pcv that filters oil vapors back into the intake to get burned by the combustion chamber. This adds more oil the the maf map and iat sensors then any filter will. Unless you are so twit cleaning your filter bi weekly and over oiling it. That's why schedule cleaning off sensors are recommended.

For the guys who thing they are so smart don't bother saving the pic is after the maf. The air turbulence carries the oil vapors all the way back to the air filter.

Also don't tell me that a K&N filter does not filter out enough dirt. Then on the other hand tell me how you go offroading and through rivers and mud holes. Where you suck up water into the filters and intake. Talk about causing engine damage.

You might want to learn how an engine works before you try to "school" me. MAF only sees filtered air. At no point does it ever see the dirty air from the PCV system. IAT is near the MAF, so again no PCV oil. The MAP has no air running through it, so again not affected by PCV
