Like steeze said, if you have a manual go duals. Otherwise DD go mid. You can always get duals later. Or get a dedicated rig to fix up and throw duals in lol

I think it's the actuator. It doesn't wanna switch into 4wd and the light just blinks :notsure:

Haha that sounds exactly like what happened to me and it was the actuator because the switch shorted and Reyes to run the actuator past what it could do and fried it. It's a 800$ oops that "is common to go out" is what I was told at Toyota.

Yeah. Not gonna pay $800. I read a thread about what Eric just mentioned, same thing happened to Bob and he just pulled the actuator assembly off and took it apart, cleaned the gunk, and re assembled. And it seemed to work.

Just way too cold outside to work on the truck in the driveway haha

WTF 800.... No way, if it's anything like the 1st gen. A simple pull off and put back is really not that hard.

Yah I had to take it over to @thefatkid because I was not wanting to go digging around on the truck In the snow and I had to do finals. The 4 wheel switch shorted out and caused the actuator to run its self out. Both had to be replaced being the 800$ and labor and diagnos brought that pretty total to 1200$!!! :frusty:Thanks again @303tacoma for that coupon!!...

Well that's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes. Sometimes either our lives or not having a place to do some things doesn't really work in our favor and we need to pay to get the job done. I totally understand. If isn't me working on the truck then it's Toyota only. I've had bad experiences here with others checking out my truck when I first got here in Co.

I agree after having other big shops work on my old truck and this truck and they have f$@ked things up so bad. I'm now fine with paying Toyota to work on it. Especially knowing that they know what they are talking about and are on here.

Really hopin I don't have to spend $800-$1200 to fix it.. I've read a couple threads about it and I think I might be able to fix it myself. But if not then looks like no 4wd for a little while

Ugh. Think our microwave went to crap. I hated installing this one 4 years ago, and am going to hate doing this one too.
