    Cleaning it up and lubing it might be all that is required. The Pirate guys did have to source a couple of o-rings too. I think that one was for a front one off of an LC but ours should be very similar.

    That is the entire unit just unmounted. He hasn't openned it up yet. My guess is it is just dirty and gummed up and wont turn when power is applied to the electric motor actuator.

    I imagine some quality time with contact cleaner and Emery cloth could solve your issue. New o rings too afterward. Cleaning the commutator bars and scuffing the brushes will help make sure the motor is getting good continuity.

    What the rack in the axle or the motor? The motor won't matter, it just holds the rack. But Ya you can put the truck in neutral and roll it and slide the rack to the left with a screw driver and be locked

    The o rings usually go bad and shit gets all in there, or through the air vent with the tube. Cleaning it isn't too bad. Just pulling the gear, spring, armature and spraying it'll down and scrubbing it and lubing it again. I've had to fix the gear and contact surface twice now from having things short out in there

    In regards to this actuator. I'm pretty sure mine needs removed and cleaned. All I get is the "I'm trying to engage flashing dash light", no matter how much weaving, rolling, turning or in and out of 4low. No joy.

    I'm glad this topic surfaced.

    My question is:

    If I remove the actuator, can I drive for a few days back and fourth to work with the exposed gears? All paved roads. Of course if we have rainy weather, I would not attempt. I could then take the thing apart and do a good job cleaning it. Time to work on the truck is pretty tight this time of year. Doing the job in phases would make things much more simple.

    Removing it exposes the access hole on the front side. If your going to drive it with the actuator off, cover the hole with some duct tape to prevent moisture and debris ingress.

    I would never drive with that motor out. It's what holds the rack in place so it Doesent slide to lock or unlock position. I've never tried it because I don't want to, but the rack could shift and try to lock at speed or in a turn. I don't want to know will break if that happens. Cleaning it can be done in a night after you're off work. So no need to drive around with a hole in your housing

    Also, take th motor out with it wired up and have somone press the button and see what it's doing when it's trying to lock. If the gear spins freely and it sounds healthy then you might have another issue. If you hit the button and it sounds like its struggling and trying to push through something, and sounds super unhealthy you know it's probably gunked Up or seized. If it doesent do anything, but you can move/wiggle the gear (on the outside of the motor) and then have it make its rotation there is a wiring issue and you might need to fix the contact points on the gear inside the motor

    In the 1st days of Tacomadom it was determined that the actuators were not sealed anywhere near enough from the factory. Both the motor bell with it's microscopic o-ring and the halves of the actuator itself with no sealant at all.
    It was standard procedure to pull it, check it out inside and put it back together with both the motor and seams "well sealed" then the entire thing got slathered with Rustoleum.
    I did this and pulled the actuator apart after 200K and found it like new inside and functioning flawlessly.
    One of my go to trails when I'm in the area has 30 to 50 water crossings in 7 miles.

    IIRC the locker fork/fork shaft has a spring loaded detent ball, check the FSM.
