Wrap a tree saver around a tree (which isn't shown in that picture), with a D ring hook that to a snatch block. Run your winch line through the snatch block and to the stuck vehicle. This is a snatch block By using that he could get a better angle to pull the truck out versus having his truck right behind that ford ranger.. Not much room to work then

 

You use this thingy made from man made fibers, called a tree strap, with a forged peice of metal, called a shackel, hooked to a thingy with a wheel and run your winch cable/rope through it, called a snatch block, then run the hookie end of the winch cable/rope to the object you want to pull.

 

Forget F and C, A is @Bobert14 's truck and B is the stuck ranger, G is the tree with the tree saver and snatch block.

 

The snatch block lowers the resistance on the line and at the same time "saves" the bark, since the bark is the only living part of the tree, from being ripped apart.

The snatch block theoretically doubles the pull power of your winch at the same time.

 

If you look closely, he actually has a 2/1 purchase on the truck! A block on the tree, a block on the victim truck, and the hook end to the tree! Smart!

 

I was trying to figure it out. I've had a few shot and some beers and thought maybe I had double/tripple vision.

 

Yep, ran my winchline through a snatchblock attached to the tree via a tree saver and then to a snatchblock on the back of the ranger and back to the tree. Pulled it straight out. He's so freaking lucky his pickup stopped where it did.

 

I need at least 1 snatch block asap

 

I have three in my pickup and three more I can borrow from dad if I really need it haha

I bought one a few weeks ago, and now that I'm looking to switch to synthetic, I'm glad I haven't used it yet. Lots of hub bub about using gear from cable recovery not being good for rope. The cable can create burrs that can shred the synthetic rope.

 

No, one is a warn and the other two are fancy ones I picked up from a logging supply shop. I'll get a pic of it tomorrow.

Ok got it. I just got a new tree saver. Guess I better get a snatch block. Didn't realize it was preferable to always use one when you can

 

It it hasnt been used or isn't in a condition where it will shred the synth, you can still use it.

How is the cost difference?

Makes it so the winch doesn't have to do as much work
