Tacoma vs Hilux. Check this pic...sick!!!

Yeah I think the Taco looks better but I'd be willing to trade for the diesel and straight front axle w/coils. The original boxy Landcruiser is still being manufactured and sold in countries all over the world with this same set up.

Notice the 4wd shifter on interior pic! Why in the hell did someone convince the american automotive industry to make "push-button" 4wd??? More electronics to break.

 

I vote Tacoma with Diesel. Hey if I can't have it then I might as well say what I want.

 

1. Cheaper to manufacture. The factory can also standardize more interior components between models.
2. Americans are lazy. Many view pushbutton as an improvement. Why waste your time and effort throwing a lever?

 

hence, more and more automatic transmissions in vehicles.....and with some, no option for a manual

 

i adore these landcruisers back in the day my dad owned one of these 89 model.... it was great too bad i was young to drive it back then ....

 

i want a straight axle up front.
i would not trade my truck for a hilex though.



I have seen in my experience as a mechanic that switches are used to decrease cost of said vehicle and increase the repair rate. what i mean is that you cant go get some grease and grease a switch that goes out, right, so you have to go to the dealer and have them fix the electronic problem. but that is my experience.

 

Well being in Europe I am on the look out for anything Toyota Tacoma related since there are very few here. I found this in the parking lot next to my hotel. It is an older HILUX, not sure what year since I am not familiar with the different years. Thought you all would be interested anyway....

 

Still have to go with the Tacoma all the way.

 

I wonder how similar the Hilux frame and body is compared to the Tacoma? Would be pretty neat to put a Tacoma body on the Hilux frame. Manual transfer case, diesel engine, boxed rigid frame!

I still think the Tacoma is more refined! Hands down... Tacoma any day.

 

I'm telling you guys, these pics don't give the international Toyota trucks any justice. When I was living in Costa Rica, I would see Toyota Hilux's, 4Runners FJ40's Landcruisers in various body types and configurations with diesels, snorkels, winch bumpers, etc... The roads were terrible and these trucks weren't going to JiffyLube every 3K.
Foreign Toyota trucks are fricken bulletproof. Everyday driving around I was like "damn look at that Hilux or look at that diesel straight axle 4Runner". I remember talking to a guy who had a 95' crew cab pickup w/4Runner front end, 2.4 turbo diesel, straight front axle, snorkel, winch bumper, 3" suspension lift and 33 BFG Mt's

 

How to make a Toyota Hilux look like a honda Ridgeline...Yuk!

 

I'm sorry.......that is just BA. So is it IMPOSSIBLE to get one of these here (minus the giant tires, because I would drive it on the road) or is it just REALLY expensive? That is just one nice looking rig!
