Dude came to the wrong forum to be asking questions like that. If you really want to know, go ask someone who sells shocks!

A lot of people on here can help him. He came to the right forum. Just can't help without seeing the current set up.

Conveniently, a lot of members on here sell shocks!

The teenager at the autoparts store ain't gona give you personal experiences using different shocks in a plowing application. Not knowing what lift he has doesnt help either.

Well, that is why you go to a shop that specializes in shocks, springs, and suspensions. not your local napa type store

the best thing would be for Jimmy to let everyone know where he lives so he can take it to a reliable place to have it looked at, instead of making wild guesses from looking at pictures on the internet from people he has no clue who they are

Helo all... I was searching and found this thread... and since no one helped this guy.... I thought I would simply ask if any of you have a brand preference.... I switched to bilstein 3 years ago and have blown out a rear shock once every year. I believe I got a dud, but it is making me not like bilsteins much. I need my truck to work properly as I live off the beaten path and have 4 miles of 4WD road in my daily commute. But I would hope a shock would last longer than 1 year. The eyelet has unthreaded twice and this time it literally exploded and the oil came out.

I have a 2001 Taco TRD 4WD, 3" lift ( old man emu) and one working bilstein. Any suggestions would be great. The road is icy and the washboarding makes for a tricky downhill commute when I dont have two shocks

Why did you go from the ome shocks to billies anyways? What Bilsteins are you using?

I got the new shocks when I lifted my truck because A- my old shocks were dead but at that time had 160k miles on them and B- I lifted the truck because I was sick of getting stuck in the 3 ft drifts that can cover a very large portion of my 4 miles of mt. driving. The Bilsteins were recommended to me from a friend who works on older yotas all the time.
I tried looking underneath my truck and cannot find a number or anything. Im wondering if it was on a sticker that fell off.

****edit.... i found a old photo on my phone from when I first contacted Bilstein for a new eyelet.... F4-BE5-D560-T0, 5100 series

Hmm, wonder if this question has ever been asked before?

Id suggest putting ome shocks back on it. They're a good shock arguably better than the 5100s. Physically breaking the shocks every year would seem like they arent the right length and/or bump stops arent positioned right. Those 5100s dont really work with more than 1.5-2" rear lift.

Sorry I am not a "car/truck" person....I just need a truck to get home and carry my dogs/bikes. I really appreciate the advice. And in my defense... I got the bilsteins when I did an add a leaf..... broke those, so I got the full springs from Old Man Emu, but the guy at the 4x4 store said it would be fine.... that was last year. The stupid left shock had alread popped off the eyelet twice before then. My only saving grace in that situation in that the shaft of the shock is the same diameter as the shocks on mt bike suspension, so I had access to the proper vice plates to tighten on the eyelet.

when you say OME you mean Old man emu? also when I look at their site they dont have any for older than 2005.

thanks for the wonderful replies :) ..i just ordered bilstein 5100's adjustable height for front ..if thy will not work i will make them work ... the truck is much lower in the front than back as it sets
