Probably a snatch block attached to the tree with a tree saver.

Well...sort of. The winch line is going to a snatchblock attached to the tree via a tree saver and then to a snatchblock on the ranger's bumper and back to the tree saver.

It used quite a bit of line haha. The more line you use the more pull you get out of a winch. Something about gear reduction by reducing the diameter of where the line comes into the drum or something. His pickup was half a foot from going over a ledge that was 70% or greater slope for several hundred yards and riddled with trees. I wanted all the pull I could get haha.

Yes, I made it out of a piece of metal and painted it. I also had to make a backing plate so it locks it into place front and back together.

That looks familiar haha. Gotta take the cap with the magnets off and pull out the coiled armature for the motor too, that usually gets gunked up and seized in the bottom, don't loose the little balls on the top and bottom. I use a screw driver, wire brush and electrical contact cleaner (doesent evaporate as fast) and just spray scrub spray scrub the spring, gear, arm, housing, scrape out everything you can with a knife or screwdriver and grease it all back up (I used dialectic grease cuz I'm too lazy to get the yellow shit from toyota. Then put it all back together and make sure it cycles freely out of the housing

Put it in a vise and use properly fitted driver and put all your weight on it as you turn. You can also use an impact, that'll usually take out most buggered screws.

Correct. It needs to come off one way or another. If the screws break, then you get a chance to fix em haha. If they snap (mine have) just tap out the screws and replace em. Usually they poke down enough you can grab the broken screw and twist it out with vice grips

Can you clamp it to a table? If the threads are seized an impact will share them but usually you can get screws out with one.

Do not get cheap taps, the only thing they're ok for is chasing threads. Check out a machine supply place or sometimes ace industrial supply has good ones that they sell individually.
