Head Lights Fogging BRAND NEW!

Hi everyone i recently purchased a set of blacked out headlights for my tacoma they look really sweet. Today i woke up early to wash my truck and i noticed there was fogging on the inside of my lens like condensation these head lights are brand new can someone help me with this problem. Is there steps or ideas i could use to fix this problem any suggestions would be nice!! thank you!

 

You have to reseal them. Not too big of a deal. Someone else will chime in shortly.

 

Ok thanks but do you know of any place that would have pictures of what to do so i can see and get an idea of how to reseal them! What part do you seal?

 

You have to put them in the oven and pull them apart to let them air out. Then you have to put a silicone sealant around the seams. You'll see them. The silicone that is on there from the factory was grey. Just follow that. Then put an extra layer along the outside.

 

Do you need to put the headlights in the oven in order to take the lens off or do they just pop right off! i'll just dry the lens off with a towel! and what sealant do you recommend?

 

If you are going to separate the lens, then yes you have to heat them up to soften the adhesive or you'll break stuff. You can try just sealing the outer rim but it may not work. Try and see.

 

just outta curiousity, where'd you get these headlights from?

i got them off of ebay i forgot the sellers company name. I will heat them what should the temperature be and for how long they need to stay in the oven?

Traditionally I just put them in the oven at 250 until the water evaporates, just keep checking on them and removing them occassionally to make sure they dont warp. then once they are done run a bead of silicone around the seam and work it in the seam with your finger. You shouldn't have to take them apart unless theres a bunch of water.

 

When we did BHLMs on IS300s. We always placed the headlight in a closet for a couple days with a dehumidifier. It doesn't take much moisture left in there from the process of making them to show up as fog when it gets cold. even if it is sealed 100%. I suggest you do this or the silica packet thing before you attempt to take them apart.

Ive never had this problem with my stock headlights! The fogging isnt too bad the moisture seems to disappear when i turn my HID's on. I will try the heating them as my last option if all else fails!

 

the moisture in the headlight only condenses when its cold. Thats when you can see it. With heat the moisture evaporates and is the air inside the headlight. You need to get it the air inside nice and dry then reinstall them with the rubber grommet thing on the back so you dont get any more moisture in them. Since they are already on the truck i would suggest trying the desiccant idea first. put it in there for a couple days and let it absorb all the moisture. then pull it out and see if that solves it. If not then reseal.
