Will any shell work for a roof rack or do I need to have a specific model in order to install one? Also, I've seen people put tents on top of their shells. I would like to do this eventually. I assume I'd need a more specific shell to support the weight, correct?

You can install on any roof with yakima or thule too tracks. Just make sure you order the correct length.

It depends on what you are planning on loading on the rack. Basic shell 100-150 lbs, you can upgrade to shells that can handle 500lbs, i.e. Snugtop sportsman package.

my leer was made to order with Thule tracks installed at their factory. I was told leer reinforces the top of these shells with bracing during the production to accommodate heavier loads. Up to what I don't know. I've installed tracks after the fact on shells and the roofs just seemed flimsy. I wouldn't have felt comfortable installing a tent atop those, but the roof on the leer with factory installed tracks is very rigid.

Not trying to change the subject, but do you have a closer pic of those wheels/tires? What are they?

What is the dynamic weight on the shell rack? I'm trying to gather as much detail as I can before I mount my RTT to my shell. I've been told my shell can hold 200lbs but everyone I'm talking to said that the shell could hold more static weight and wouldn't be a problem with my RTT and family in there.
