The oil change bay is right off the waiting area.. glass enclosed. So, I i've watched most of the changes. Mobil 1 every 5/6k miles.
No mistakes while I was watching.

I never paid attention if the dealership I bought my truck has a window next to the waiting area. I'm thinking it does not. I think I'm going to take my brass drain valve with me though on my 1st oil change and have the tech install it instead of the oil plug that way if I choose not to go back for the 2nd free oil change I can do it myself.

Just watched my Tacoma get its first oil change at the dealer last week. 4 bays used for basic service are glass on three sides, very open viewing

Those valves are great, but for a vehicle that goes off road, I think you're asking for trouble...I have one on my Dodge with a cummins diesel...it hold 11 quarts of oil...the drain plug is about a 1" in diameter...first time I pulled the plug, I had nearly 3 gallons of oil all over the place...it came out faster than my drain pan would take it...now I just put a bucket under it, open the valve and let it rip...not a drop on the hands !!

my service light came on at 4750 to remind me for service, i took it in they only did tire rotation and checked the fluids no oil change. i got pissed off and too it to the customer relation manager! they contacted Toyota and got back with me the next day, they said no oil change till 10000 even for the 4x4 models on the 2016 tacoma's.

One reason why I will be changing mine myself every 5k when the light comes on! I suggest you do the same cause oil starts to break down between 3-5k!!!!

I'll have to find a Toyota dealer with windows for viewing. I can send them a email and ask before I drive the 60 to 70 miles.

The Colorado I traded in last month had 2 free oil changes but the dealer told me 5,000 miles I had to have on my truck for it to be changed. I told him he don't need to bother as he was not the only Chevy dealer in southern Illinois. I'll never buy another truck from him and his brothers. I have known them 40 years and bought two new Chevy trucks from them. Both had issues.

The dealer I purchased from said 5k for the first one and put a windshield sticker in with that listed. The local dealer I visited had no question, changed the oil, checked all 5 tires pressure, all fluids and rotated tires in about 20 minutes just for a signature on the warranty paperwork. Find a different dealer

Why would you get pissed off? What does the maintenance book say? Does it say 10K? If so, that's all Toyota will pay for under the maintenance program. They pay for what the Toyota recommends (the book). I have the same thing with my new Volvo. Volvo pays for oil changes at 10K, I like to change it every 5K, so I pay for the ones in between the Volvo covered ones.

Maintenance book says 5k for first, 10k after that

i was pissed off for multiple reasons, 1st is when i bought the truck i was told by that same dealership that they will change my oil every 5k. 2nd it took them 2 hours to tell me ur service is done and u only needed tire rotation! "i would of paid for it if they had told me no oil change was gonna be done when i said clearly im here for my oil change when i walked in for my appointment. 3ed i reported a problem that had happen to my vehicle "like my speedometer tic tocing all over the gauge and didint go hire the 60 when i was driving 80 according to the digital reading" they said we drove it up the street we couldn't replicated so we can't fix it. then i said well ok i dont want you to fuck with it without a bulletin form toyota anyway so could you open a ticket that way its known that i had reported the problem and i would get a call when a bulletin does come out! i was told no because if they open a ticket for every customer with a problem they end up with tons of open ticket for years!!!!! i dont think thats acceptable!
