Anyone taken the space behind the seats of an Xtracab and completely converted it into a cargo area?

Seeing as the extra space in the extra cab doesn't really do too well when carrying more people, I'd like to just convert it fully for cargo. Can I see your setups?

Subbed as I've been thinking about doing this as well! I've seen a setup before like that. But was a very simple "deck" type setup. With a couple lids for access. Not sure if that'd be sufficient for my liking, or something more in depth. Maybe something like that for the bottom. And another rectangular floating box shelf about the size of the backrest, for misc gear like hi lift and recovery gear, or a junk droor type deal. Maybe an insert for an ice chest or something. Just reach back and grab whatcha need. Idk.

I'd probably be willing to do something like that, but it doesn't really fix my original problem. I have to carry stacks of books pretty often in the back and they slide all over the carpeting back there. I need something I can just put the books in and know they won't move.

If all you want is books to stay in place, find a plastic tote that fits the spot and put rubber feet on the bottom.

I made a simple wood platform. I am gonna add a full sheet to with d rings and net and hinges to get to the storage underneath.

you could make a platform like this and mount a milk crate to it.

Funny how this thread got started just as I was in the planning stages of building a wooden trunk into the backseat...

I think a lock box/tool box back there would be infinitely more useful than seats I don't put bodies in ever.

No bodies ever in mine, the back belongs to the doggie. :)

Is it pretty sturdy? Does it slide around at all or make any noise?

as mentioned above, both ideas are great solutions so I suggest you take both ideas put together.

build the wooden platform for a flat floor back there for maximum storage use, then add some small tots for your books and if you put enough to cover the whole area they cant slide around and you have sections to put different things in different places, the best way of getting more storage space and at the same time be an efficiently organized space

Following the work done by another owner - I built a dog platform in back it comes out easily if I need the space for something else, but I like it so well, I've never taken it back out. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/dog-platform.357086/page-2#post-10077529.

You could easily put some recessed D-rings in the wood and use bungies to strap down whatever you didn't want to move. If you follow the link provided, someone did something similar to a 2nd gen and it turned out really well.

The 2nd Gen access cab rear doors are one of the few things I like better about the 2nd gens over the 1st gens.
