That Diesel engine in Colorado/Canyon has been running in Holden and Isuzu for long time already, it seems to hold up pretty well.
I would rather buy Toyota diesel but since seatbelt bracket Mike is in charge in Toyota that probably is not going to happen, at least until Toyota get their ass hand over to them like Nissan got.
I still find it funny that for all that talk how nobody wants Diesels, GM has run out of the parts... and orders are now piling up. .

In some ways it does have to do with finding buyers but a big deterrent is the cost and ability to pass U.S. diesel emissions. Just ask VW how that's going for them. One example, Ford has lots of diesel vehicles sold overseas. There is a 2.0L single turbo and also a bi-turbo diesel I4 that can be found in most platforms sold in foreign markets. They even offer the single turbo with an MT6, even in stuff like the Edge. Ford won't sell it here because the market in the US for diesel is too small for the cost of certifying the engine, whereas in Europe it accounts for something like 40% of sales.

Low sales + high expense to certify = not going to happen.

Actually found my old pictures from 2011. Thats how cancer started eating my frame, tried to clean up and found its coming from inside the metal. That started the battle with Toyota ... Contacted Corporate Toyota, rep looked and told me not their [Toyota] problem because frame is only covered by 3 year 36 000 warranty.
Told him we will see about that.
And I enjoyed every bit of satisfaction this year, watching shitty Toyota shelling out $13k on replacing frame on my truck..
Hey Toyota if you read this... :luvya:

Has a single one hit consumer hands yet...

Seriously... Last I heard they had a hiccup and had to re evaluate the truck. BTW is the engine even being built in North America... If not that explains why they are running out of parts. Ford tried to import all of the inline 5 Diesels they needed for the Transit but that idea has really failed since demand skyrocketed and that's for a small volume heavy cargo van. I can't imagine a normal release midsize could keep supply even if they are just piling on the lot outside the plant.

    Just some perspective.

Fords inline 5 Diesel is running in the Transit right now in your town/city/metro area. It'll probably be in the new Ranger too.

Ford sells more than enough CUV's with gas engines. Plus, with all the North American neutering, you couldn't get a Diesel Edge to feel perky. A slow ass Colorado still feels great because of the initial torque pull and the noise "real truck fans" feel from it's tiny Diesel. Those feelings won't translate for a CUV owner, hence Ford isn't going there unless something pushes us towards Diesels over here.

With record low gas prices coming GM is not going to like the outcome of their Diesel experiments as much as some people are thinking. The cost benefit won't be there.

I think couple already hit the streets, but numbers are low.
I believe Engine is produced in Rayong, Thailand factory and I have more confidence in that Diesel than in Toyota 2gr-fks engine. At least those Holdens in Australia make it from dealer home and people drive them in outback.
People with new 2016 Tacoma and 2GR-FKS engine sometimes make it home from dealer and sometimes don't :D seems a crap shoot. For all the crap given to Ford and GM there is got to be some remorse on 2016 buyers.
    "Oh how mighty have fallen"

Those transits are nice and do have front end that looks like Tacoma (or Tacoma front end looks like transit.
If they only made one 4x4. with some 8000 Towing capacity.

Found an article that did a comparison test between the canyon, colorado, and tacoma. 1st - canyon, 2nd - colorado, 3rd - tacoma. If you look at the pictures, the interior of the canyon looks identical to the colorado but with different plastic pieces...what a joke. Also the canyon base price (with the diesel) is 40,245 and the one they tested was 45,705...that is insane.

They're apparently selling a lot of them too, so people are happily paying $40k for a mid-size truck. I don't know about other people, but part of the reason I wanted a mid-size was the lower cost and I don't have any need for full-size towing capability. $45k is a lot for a mid size ... hard to justify the cost IMO, but I guess the market will decide, right?

I don't know what we're talking, just saying people spend 46k in my country for a 1/4 ton. $40k for,the trd sport dclb I looked at. Main reason I am not in one, that coupled with almost 5% interest.

    5% interest O_O

Seems that 1-2% is the norm right now in the US from when I was shopping around recently.

at 5% interest I'd consider paying in cash instead, but at lower % it's nice to take the loan and put more $ in mutual funds instead ...

    I hear ya!
I could have been in a 63k ram sport and after rebates and 0% for the same as a trd sport dclb 4x4. But I already have a 2012 ram sport, and really want a taco, in time the interest and rebates will become more favourable.

For 42k I could buy a new power wagon. Ram is a poor comparison on price since they practically give their trucks away. No offense. In Canada private banks don't cut interest rates for vehicles below 4 percent. The USA is different and hence why their banks aren't as safe if things go to hell.
