Toyota is behind schedule and with the sales volume remaining high, you won't see a release of the 2017 Tacoma until very late fall 2016. Probably late October to mid November. Also, with the sales volumes being what they are, look for very minor changes from 2016 to 2017. Look at the 1996 compared to 1997 and the 2005 compared to 2006...nearly zero changes !!!!

I doubt it...they seem to make big changes like that every two years

Only things I can see possibly changing are minor like height adjustable or power seats, maybe OEM remote start, a second interior choice for Limited..

Yeah the changes to be made are going to be very small. Like stated above it will be things like adding height adjustment, LED taillights, gas cap holder, etc. It wont be anything major like a grille change.

I was ready to pull the trigger on a 2016, until I sat down with the dealer and went over some numbers. He was trying to get me a truck with some extra stuff that I didn't really want and would not compromise on cost. I am not paying 250 dollars for a led bed light, nor 70 dollars for a trailer ball and draw bar. His comment was" These trucks are selling as is and we don't need to negotiate". I walked out and my last words to him was, I don't need to buy from you either. So yea, dodge and honda are releasing new trucks in 2017, and speculation that ford may get back in the game, and Nissan is always an option. So, my advice is wait, if you do go tacoma, by the end of 2016 they will have settled down and you can get better deals and bugs will be worked out.

So far I have not seen Toyota own up to many issues. Most are one off or a handful.
The Hood vibration seems to be something Toyota can easily fix. Otherwise its "normal"

The DC OR in manual is a tough cookie to crack depending on where you live. Not sure why you would want a manual. I had 2 08 Sahara's. The wife had her 2 door and I had an Unlimited. 4 wheelin in a manual can get nasty real quick! On a side note... In Oct 13, an 73yo in a Prius rear ended the wife when she was at a stop light. He was going 50mph. The Jeep ended up being totaled but looking at it you wouldn't have known. I ordered the 08 from the factory and paid invoice 25k(sept 07). 6 years later, Insurance paid 26,500. That roll cage saved her butt! She's in a 14 Sahara now!

OP don't let these people dissuade you from getting a manual. If you're ready to buy the truck now, just wait for it. I've been waiting since November 30. I also ordered a 7545 and the build date is January 27, so maybe the salesman is not necessarily correct. You could also look on Cars.com. I know you could get a white 7545 without waiting if you were willing to fly somewhere.

Agreed. The manual is a must have for me. Just enjoy driving stick shift. I doubt I will be in an off road situation where my skills with a stick will be an issue. Not being a jerk..just won't get into that hairy of a situation.

This article from today was also a good read. Especially since I have not been able to test drive the manual.

I haven't tested the manual transmission either but to me I wouldn't even buy the truck if it weren't available in the offroad double cab trim with the manual. Which is also the reason I didn't even test drive the colorado/canyon because the manual wasnt available with any of the v6 trims.

I'am less than 12hrs away from my final order-Build Sheet. I'am going to call the dealer and make the change from auto to manual. I want that feeling back that i had in high school when my uncle Tom would let me use his brand new 1986 4x4 access cab 4cyl with a 4speed manual. Iam hoping the 2016 can make me feel the same! I think it is the proper transmission in a Tacoma, especially since all i hear about is how the automatic is searching back and forth. I need 1 vehicle to be a stick, plus my girlfriend wants a manual also.

The manual is the way to go! I ordered my 7545 (TRD OR DC MT) the last week of September and took delivery December 28th.

The wait is worth it. The big reason I bought my first Tacoma in 2010 was the manual, and the 2016 doesn't disappoint.

    The wait is worth it!

FWIW, I tried to order a white DCSB TRDOR (auto) and my dealer told me the same. They spent several weeks trying to get the order "in" and finally gave up with an "lol, no." :(
I wanted something pretty specific (orange interior and NO tech packages/sunroof), and they just could not get in the queue with that, even thinking by April. Works out for me, I'll live with the tech/sunroof and am getting something I'm even more pumped about, but at that point I was about to wait for 2017 myself.

Also, FWIW, we had a 4dr JK too. For tall folks, the JK is a little more upright, so there was more legroom front and back. However, cargo storage will be less than a pickup with a topper.

Edit: My little 13 SR5 is a manual. I am sure going to miss that!

I still can't get confirmation on what I want,I was told that it takes several people from Toyota to tell me what I can get. Iam just not used to having this much trouble trying to buy a truck. If anyone knows of a kickass dealer that knows how to get a customer a truck,I would much appreciate the help.I'll fly to it and drive home,or have it delivered. New ko2's showed up today. Quests this will hold me over for a while.

I just traded my 2dr Rubicon for this Tacoma to better suit my growing family. I'm average height and drive with my seat fairly upright and found I can easily and comfortably fit another average sized passenger behind myself and I'd imagine one of my 6 foot friends could get by back there. Personally I'm more concerned with my satisfaction than my passengers (with the exception of my family). Luckily my kids are young and my wife is tiny though so I got that working for me.
