I agree and disagree (as you could probably guess). I think there are plenty of good reasons to skip the gym or even say you don't have time for it. Let's be real, the gym is a hobby and that's it. Cut the "It's a way of life" BS that is used to motivate new comers. People that regularly use the gym are likely there because it's something they like to do to pass the time. Without it, there is an hour or two in the day where they have nothing to do. It is no different than me sitting in a chair tying flies or drawing.

People have better things to do than go to the gym. Some fathers, believe it or not, want to be around their kids as much as possible. Working 8 hours a day and only having the last few hours to spend with their kids kill them. Go to the gym in the morning? Maybe that's not an option with the morning commute. I am not saying the fathers you mentioned don't care about their kids, just that skipping an hour at the gym to be with them is fair. Some people have hobbies that are more important to them and that is also ok.

I know some guys that rarely go to the gym. Why? Because they bust their ass all day to get all of their schoolwork done so they can go rock climb during the weekend.

Obviously the article is geared towards "fat bob". The guy who goes home after work and firmly plants himself on the couch until bed time. It's just unfair to assume someone is lazy because they say they don't have the time to go to the gym. IMO, there are plenty of awesome reasons to never step foot in the gym. I may be in the position some day, but for now the gym is a easily accessible hobby to kill an hour and burn some stress.

I will say that for me, the gym is not a hobby. Its part of my lifestyle. Without going to the gym, I do myself (physical health and emotional health) a disservice, I do my coworkers a disservice, and I do all the people I have sworn to protect disservice. But to some, yes, its a hobby.

Even in the military I would have called it a hobby (well, back then I was a newb and believed the "way of life" bs. But looking back it was a hobby).

That said, I understand where you are coming from. I would say the Army, Police, Border Patrol, etc is a way of life and part of that would be keeping in top physical shape/condition. I always went to the gym because I wanted to and not because I needed to. Part of the reason I went was to improve myself as a soldier but most of it the time I went because of my desire to have big biceps, chiseled pecs, and tree trunks for legs . I know a lot of people that would describe their hobbies as a way of life though so don't take what I said overly serious. For example, hunters will often say hunting it is a way of life. Some hunters I believe, others no. It's not as if they don't shoot an elk that they are going to starve but I know many men that try their hardest to live off the land. I would imagine professional/competitive bodybuilders could actually say it is a way of life because it is literally their life. I do have to laugh at the 150lb kid with a new years resolution of getting shredded who preaches to people it's a way of life. I think you have to earn that saying, you can't just go to the gym everyday.

To me, it's not a hobby, but a tool I use to get the desired look I want. If I could take a pill every morning and never have to step in the gym again, I'd buy a pallet full. That being said, I don't dread the gym either. Since the gym is the only way I can get what I want, I make the best of it. I enjoy going.

@BabyTaco, I agree that people can be fit without being in the gym. If your goal is just to be in shape, the possibilities are endless. The majority of people who bitch about not being fit want the "ideal physique" of big arms and a 6-pack and the easiest way to achieve that is in a gym, although 99% of gym-goers aren't sporting either. My comment was geared towards the "fat bob's" who make up a majority of the population that eat fast food everyday, watch tv every night, and complain about not having time or money to be fit. One of my best friends is a Iron Man guy and he has a newborn daughter. To him, being in shape is being able to run, swim, and bike retarded distances and, while I don't have the same goals, I understand it and that's what he loves and he takes time to make it happen. I'm all about aesthetics, so my dojo is the gym. Regardless of what your arena is, it's easy to do and 99% of the people who make excuses not to go to the gym/run/rock climb/hiking/swimming/etc. are suffering from a motivation/discipline problem. No one wants to wake up before work and go to the gym. I don't want to go to the gym straight after work, but I do because it beats the alternative of losing everything I've worked for. Some people will say it's just not for them and those are the same people who whine about how we should all embrace fat models and the dad bod, but the real issue is people don't know how to push the plate of cookies away and opt for something healthier and, if they do eat like crap, they damn sure don't have the discipline or self-motivation to bust ass to work it off. @KodiakToyTRD is a great example of this: mother fucker is always posting oreos and food that clogs my arteries just looking at it, but he busts his ass to make sure he keeps his bodyfat low so that he can one day look as good as me :stirthepot:

 Pretty sure you wish you looked remotely like @KodiakToyTRD . But I agree with what you said. The fat bobs are all too common. I hear it all the time with all my hobbies. Most of the time I respond with "Don't know what to tell ya. I am sure if you wanted it bad enough then you could make it happen". The only one I actually hate hearing is when someone says "I wish I could have hobbies". LOL, get a life bob.

I may be jelly of his body fat lvls :anonymous: And yeah, I agree with all of the above. I'm not trying to look like Arnold because it's a "lifestyle choice"...it's certainly a hobby. Now, if Optimum Nutrition were like, "Zach, we're gonna pay you $1 mil/yr to look like Arnold", I'd consider that a "lifestyle" lol.

Moral of the story: lazy people are lazy

Hahahaha that's pretty funny. Having never really witnessed one myself either I want to give them the benefit of the doubt...but that report isn't doing much convincing lol. Who needs form. It's like, cardio with weights? Doesent matter how you're lifting as long as you're breathing hard and sweating?

    If that's what it means,
i feel like I did that squating today

I've never tried it but that seems like a pretty solid list of ingredients to me. I like that it contains cla, though it doesn't specify how much...so probably not much. Looks like it's on bb.com for a higher price, reviews look decent. I recently got some of the MTS machine whey and that shit is freakin tasty!

That's a lot of protein for cheap. I'd try it. Hopefully it doesn't taste like ass and hopefully it's not just ground up horse hooves lol. The reason I stick with ON is because they are constantly tested for protein spiking and have never failed...plus it tastes great. I can't remember all the companies that got busted spiking their protein, but I know MusclePharm was one of them. Now, I'm hesitant to try other shit because I like to get what I pay for.

Yea ON is delicious and has worked for me in the past. I figure I'll try this stuff and see how it is. Even if it tastes horrible I'll just chug it anyway like I do with the gold standard lol.

Cheap protein gives me the shits and horrific protein farts. ON is the only brand I use now because I rarely have protein farts and never once have I had an upset stomach from it.

I got away from protein shakes and only mix protein with my peanut butter. Everything else I get from quest bars or whole meat
