Oh, and that long Ford rant that went back and forth…Fords always go on insane sales, as does GM. I looked at the FX4 last year as it not surprisingly went on a crazy sale, then remembered it was a Ford.
I'm sticking with my Taco (LOVE the resale value and durability I've gotten on my previous 4), and when I come into a bit more money….Range Rover Sport is next haha.

One shocker is the curb weight of a:

    2016 Tacoma TRD sport 4x4 DCLB - 4480
    2016 f150 supercab 4x4 XLT - 4680.

200 pounds difference, and the f150 has 50 more hp and over 100 torque.

Toyota's online specs and Fords online specs.

I believe they are optimistic too, as my 2013 limited + canopy weighed in at roughly 4700 pounds with fuel and a canopy.

One of our company trucks is a 2013 F150, 5.0 SCREW 6.5' bed. it has had numerous warranty items. one of which was a broken front CV joint @1 year old. other items were mainly electrical. 4wd system does not like dirt. not good if you work in the woods for a living. it would get stuck between 2 and 4WD and make an awful grinding noise. This is common on f-150's that see a lot of off road use (daily)

in defence of the ford though I have seen similar issues with other brands in my line of work.

Taco seems to be fairly trouble free, but all things wear out, just some faster than others.

It's fanboys with posts like this that blow me away.

Toyota uses the strong Tacoma sales to fund other vehicle research (Camry Corolla ect) which is why the Tacoma seems to lack features, and lacks brand new anything. (Reused engines/tranny, reused old suspensions and frame) and the body styles last for so long.

Ford uses F150 massive sales to fund F150 research. Which is why they can offer such an advanced technology and update often.

Toyota used the 4.0/2.7from 2005-2015 with 1 body style generation.

Ford used the following engines in the same timeframe with 3 body generations.

    4.6L
    5.0L
    5.4L
    3.7L
    6.2
    5.4 supercharged

    Then the current
    3.5L na
    3.5 ecoboost
    2.7 ecoboost
    5.0 coyote

    I am a huge Toyota fan (3 Tacoma's and 3 4runners) and I'm only 30, but I doubt I will get another Toyota.

The 4Runner is fat and handles poorly with terrible mileage.
The 2014 Tundra is an old design with 2005 gas mileage.
The New Tacoma lacks new tech, is slow and again poor mileage.

And while they have tried to freshen the Tacoma up, it is still "old". To me it would be advanced as a 2012 model. Now that's it's 2015 and we have a lot of automakers using aluminum, turbo's ,diesel and just better interiors the Tacoma.

Test drive other vehicles, that is what really sold me on not buying a 2016 Tacoma. I was nearly set on one until I tried other vehicles in the price range.

I was really surprised they took leather away from the 2016 trd sport.

The full list of the top 25 bestselling vehicles in America is as follows:
    1 – Ford F Series – 743,851
    2 – Chevrolet Silverado – 529,755
    3 – Ram Truck – 439,789
    4 – Toyota Camry – 428,606
    5 – Honda Accord – 388,374
    6 – Toyota Corolla – 339,498
    7 – Nissan Altima – 335,644
    8 – Honda CRV – 335,019
    9 – Honda Civic – 325,981
    10 – Ford Fusion – 306,860
    11 – Ford Escape – 306,212
    12 – Chevy Cruze – 273,060
    13 – Toyota RAV4 – 267,698
    14 – Chevy Equinox – 242,242
    15 – Hyundai Elantra – 222,023
    16 – Ford Focus – 219,638
    17 – Hyundai Sonata – 216,936
    18 – GMC Sierra – 211,833
    19 – Toyota Prius – 207,372
    20 – Nissan Rogue – 199,199
    21 – Ford Explorer – 189,339
    22 – Chevy Malibu – 188,519
    23 – Jeep Grand Cherokee – 183,786
    24 – Nissan Sentra – 183,268
    25 – Jeep Cherokee – 178,508

    sales don't lie...

I love tacoma's just as much as anybody, but the fanboy, toyota koolaid drinking type are hard to handle sometimes. I use to work with a few of them. Act as though Toyota is the best thing since sliced bread, and my Ram or GM truck is inferior. Gets tiring after awhile.

You compare price and features and this is why Ford/GM/Ram out sell toyota by 100's of Thousands when it comes to trucks.

I don't blame Littlechilds - this is a Canadian 2016 *TACOMA* thread, after all - how about starting a F150 thread for all of the F150 fanboys?

Yes, and we all like tacoma's, just bring things back to reality somewhat.

Good to hear other peoples opinions.

The thing about the F150 is that it is so darn popular. You see tonnes on the road. That is one of the benefits of the taco, you just don't see very many. The Taco also has the outdoorsy image that we like. It is also smaller and easier to park.

The is no doubt the new taco isnt perfect, but it is the best mid size option now if you want to do any offroad. Nissan may have something to say about that but until then the Taco is the only game in town. IMHO the Colorado/Canyon is more like an SUV and doesn't hit the offroad market.

I see tons of Tacoma's on the road here in Vancouver, but not many 2016's at all. I worry for Toyota as they are priced as direct competition to fullsize and the GM twins are a few thousand cheaper.

I agree they are the best to park, and best off road but I know for myself they are more off road capable than I really need. I am sure this is true for many Tacoma world owners.

I used to rock crawl with my 2001, but it gets expensive if your main vehicle is also your off road vehicle. I also would never seriously off road my 2013 Limited which was 40,000. I could never seriously off road a new 2016 either which are over 40,000 after taxes.

If I wanted to off road seriously, I'd buy an old Toyota or a jeep. But for the fire roads, snow and light off road trails I do, even a Colorado/f150 with a leveling kit and tires will do just fine. Plus they ride smoother, handle with less roll over and offer a better package for 90% of my driving style.

Sorry really dumb question but other than engine and transmission, it the drive system generally the same as Gen 2, ditto suspension. Would a 3inch lift from second gen fit in a 2016?

Agreed to the above. I've seen two on the road here in Calgary both driven by guys with gray hair and beards.

If I were to seriously off road (using that term literally) then I certainly would not pay 35 to 45k for a truck with accessories just to beat the hell out of it. An old Toyota or Nissan would suffice. If I bang it up then who cares and if worst comes to worst and it breaks down beyond repair then I can pull the plates off and leave it in the bush ;). If I buy a truck for $40,000 then I will likely be using it 90% for road and 10% for trail duty.
