Sure I do. They are prehistoric creature, right? I think the Flintstones even had one as a pet

I would imagine that, but that 'seems' to be the case with all ECU's. No encryption out there is 100%, this has been proven on many levels throughout the years. I can't say without a doubt it can be done on this ECU, all I've been saying is that I know someone who has experience doing this.. why not ask?

People also claim with crap like Bully Dog, you can remove their tune and re-install the factory tune if you need warranty repairs. But the ECU has manufacturer hidden menus that can track parameters when they are out of range, so if looked into, a factory engineer would see the ECU was screwed with.
I program ECU's all the time for a certain company. they will gladly sell you a passcode and a different map for a price. This company also has no "chips" or anything on the market for their engine. If you try and hack it, it is toast, point blank.

All of the sudden you know something.. programming an ECU is easy.. hacking into one is not. Do you know who makes the ECU for the Tacoma's?

    THAT would be my worry.

If Toyota released the software today and said, "Good luck"... It so doesn't mean we would be good to go. Who wants to be the first guy to put 1000 miles on a truck with a modified (and now out of warranty) truck? I would be interests in watching people's results. I didn't jailbreak my iPhone until the 5S and I always wait to see how the latest generation of software will do. Not really interested in explaining how I "bricked" my truck to my wife.

Still. A fun conversation... Just wish I had beer and pretzels.

    Do YOU know?
It isn't worth my time to look. Obviously, if it could be re-tuned, somebody would've done it in the last 10 years.

Hacking the ECU is the first step.. knowing how to tune an engine is a whole different ball game. I happen to know a hacker and a tuner.

Let us know how much a new ECU costs.
Well this was fun. This argument has nothing to do with the thread, but thanks for playing

Thank you, my buddy knows Denso's, if it is a Denso the odds are good.

Better invest in his future. Sales for his custom tunes will make him RICH, like trump.
Denso probably makes 70% of the controllers in vehicles

Not sure how I missed that. You started a discussion off topic, the OP asked what the button did, and somehow you start speaking of tuning your freakin Yamaha, so screw you
