If you are considering any branch of the military, talk to a recruiter. While they will blow smoke, it's still the best place to get ideas for whatever type career you're considering. If and when it comes time that you do enlist, make sure you get whatever promises given by the recruiter in writing, whether it is the chosen career, or base assignment, etc. Good luck.

Logistics worker for any of the big box corporations. Im at walmart im 23 and i have 4 days on 3 days off and with the optional overtime i can make over 60k a year. And im off by 4pm in most cases. No education aside from highschool. Im thinking about a degree however as id like to move up.

Edit: another option building off what others are saying, is do military, and then apply at a job like mine, idk about other companies, but walmart has a serious hardon for ex military

Have you considered nursing? I know it's not an outside job but you work 3 12's which leaves some time to spend outdoors. Look into becoming a medic or nurse in whatever military branch you decide on if you go that route. Maybe (eventually) becoming a flight nurse would appeal to you.

Air Evac (usually helicopter) go and transfer patients to hospitals that can treat them. Usually patients in critical condition (aka fucked up bad)...

I work with a lot a ex-military guys, tho I am not (which I regret). What is your career choice or what training are you looking for in the military? Or are you looking to make a career of the military?

This for sure. I worked as a CNC machinist for a couple years when I got out of high school until the economy took a dive. After that I decided to join the service and i ended up going active army as an Intelligence Analyst. Absolutely no regrets and the best decision I ever made. Now 6 yrs 2 trips to AFG (bout to be my 3rd in two weeks) and 1 trip to Iraq I too am debating getting out. What I am looking at doing is becoming a lineman for a utility company. In GA you have the best lineman school in the country that's 15 weeks long. I have a couple friends in the business and they love it. Hard work but your outside and you get great pay...very good pay. Get in with a utility company and your set.

Anyways just a thought. But if you do look at going into the service whether its reserves national guard whatever, after you talk to a recruiter you'd be smart to ask questions here before you sign. Recruiters tend to tell you anything and there's enough military to tell you what's fact and fiction.

I joined the Marine Corps when I was 20. After high school, I was very back and forth with what I wanted to do. I was in and out of the recruiters office since 18 before I finally decided. I have been doing it for about 7 years now, and while there have been many "downs", I think I made the right choice. Any military branch is a good way to get your foot in the door of life, that is, as long as you stay out of trouble.

So postponing the decision by a few years unless you use that time to gain knowledge in a career?

That's the thing though, I don't have a single clue what I'm interested in. So, I was thinking joining the military and then I believe they will pay for college if I decide to go that route

The gi bill will pay for different things now as well other than just college such as technical schools and on the job training in case you decide against the traditional 4 yr academic route. Also while on active duty you have tuition assistance to take college classes that don't touch your gi bill

That is true & not a bad plan. It'd be even more groovy if your speciality while enlisted was career / degree oriented.

As many have stated, there are a million different things that you can pursue. The real big question that only you can answer is "What are you passionate about?" Everyone has a different definition to the word success and when you are thinking about a career you need to think about what do you envision success being in the short and long term. (Please know that your idea of success will continue to morph as you continue to learn and grow as an individual) Questions to ask yourself... what do you want your salary to be? what do you want your working hours to be? do you want to have a family? are you ok with travelling? do you want something manual or a desk job?

To me, sucess in the short term meant going to school and getting an engineering degree so I could work creating"stuff". I did not know what "stuff" meant, but I knew I wanted to create. I went to school, used my school years to get internships in different industries, and I found what areas of engineering I did not want to ever do. I now work for an aircraft manufacturer in a position that gives me a good balance between hands-on and desk work and I love it. The long term sucess vision includes the whole family, house, and dog thing, but I know I'll be able to have it with what I do.

So, all this to say, think about what you want for yourself in the future and don't be afraid to venture outside your comfort zone.

Given any thought to pilot or aircraft mechanic? Do either interest you?

Just not sure if I'd go Air force or Army, I heard in marines they pick your job

I was kind of thinking mechanic, not sure diesel or regular.

I was set on a truck driver, but I'd really like to have a wife. I'd like to make enough to make an easy living. At first I liked something manual, but I believe I could sit at a desk for a little bit. I'd also like to have good retirement.

I'm really scared of heights so I don't think a pilot is the right one, but I'd be interested in a mechanic
