I have a Nexus 5 (2013) cell phone running Android 6.01 (Marshmallow). 'OK Google' is the one of the Android equivalents of Siri: my phone is set to wake up and run Google Now when it hears 'OK Google'. I use this to send dictated text messages, make phone calls and the like.

When I have the phone connected to the truck via Bluetooth, I cannot activate the 'OK Google' feature from toggling the phone switch via the steering wheel and speaking aloud. Am I missing some important setting on the phone or the truck that would enable this feature? I would like to send hands-free text messages other than the canned messages built into the truck messaging system.

I haven't tried it yet in the truck, but in my last car the low power listen mode (phone asleep, looking to wake on specific phrase, "OK, Google" in the case of stock android) only worked through the mic on the phone, not through the vehicle mic. Once awake, the phone would listen for further commands through the vehicle. I'll try it out later today and see if it's the same case in the truck. Was on Moto X 2013 in a '13 Subaru Outback, currently on Nexus 6.

    Nothing yet....im a poor bastard.
I have noticed that speech to text does not work when my android is connected via bluetooth. I cant find a setting to change it, so i guess that is just the way it is.......unless you push the talk button on the steering wheel and try to go that route.

The manual only mentions Siri working with the steering wheel "phone" button. Not sure if it's possible to use android with that function unfortunately.

Hopefully someone can help or come up with something.

Forgot to do it yesterday but tried it out this evening. Phone will not wake from sleep on "OK Google" command, one awake and unlocked "OK Google" works but only through the phone mic, once listening for commands the phone is listening through the truck. It's too complicated and cumbersome for my taste at the moment. Oh, and old news, but messaging doesn't work for me at all because I use a Google Voice number for everything and Hangout messages aren't recognized by Entune. Combined with how much Entune just plain blows in the first place I'll be closely following what people are doing in the aftermarket. I'd love to have Android Auto.

^^^Thank you so much, given that your experience confirms mine. I have an additional complication insofar as I have to unlock my phone with a PIN: I work in healthcare and our IT department locks our phones since we use them to access PHI and have to be HIPAA compliant.

but if you connect via bluetooth, you can set up the truck as a "trusted zone" and no need for a passcode. its a setting in there somewhere on the android. AND you can use that at home too. so it isnt a bluetooth only setting.

Unfortunately, as a device administrator, our IT department has disabled that capability. A numerical PIN has to be entered each time the phone is unlocked. We cannot even designate our offices as a 'trusted zone'.

We don't want to be on the news with a lost or stolen phone being used to access medical charts of patients.
