    I want to change my poll result to "Have a device installed"....I had a guy with a '12 come to my house for something and I asked him if he's secured his tailgate...and he was like "What do you mean?" So I showed him how in 2 seconds I could steal his tailgate...He was shocked and went right to the store to get a clamp...

    Soft Tonneau, Mud Flaps, working on the rest.
    Did the Hose Clamp, Latching Tonneau Cover and the Electric Pop and Lock is on order. Should be GTG once the Pop and lock is installed. Until then it is parked either in the garage at the apartment or in a secured parking lot at work.

    Had the tailgate on a Chevy Silverado stolen a few years ago. Since that time I've installed the hose clamp on several trucks including my own.

    I'd figure it's cheap insurance and most thieves will probably move on to the next truck if they can't rip your tailgate off in 10 seconds.

    All my buddies now install the hose clamps as soon as they drive their new trucks off the lot. The tailgate lock is only useful if you remember to lock it, but most of us truck owners that actually use their pickup beds unfortunately forget to use their key locks or don't bother because of the inconvenience.

    I did that over a month or so ago. I met with some friends for lunch and we were heading out to the mountains for the day. Instead of driving the 30 minutes home I decided to leave my truck at a train station. I figured everything was locked and left for the day. It wasn't till a few days later I went and checked and the tailgate wasn't locked. 3 Weeks earlier I had installed my Tonneau Cover and forgot to lock the tailgate. I realized leaving my truck at the station when there wasn't a lot of people around(it was on a Saturday). I could have had my Tonneau Cover, tools and tailgate stolen if someone went and checked to see if it was locked. Now I am always checking to make sure that it's locked.

    Did the keyed hose clamp mod. Guess I should also do the washer. Cheap insurance. Never heard of anybody stealing tailgates until reading it on this forum. Seems like catalytic converters are a popular item to steal in my area. My son in law had his stolen off his Mitsubishi.

    My point exactly the converter on your sons car was probably cut off with a sawsall. How do you stop a thief other than catching him or her in the act and shooting them in the knee cap.
    If they can't steal it I'd bet they will kick it or damage it and move on. Better gone than needing repairs.

    a few goodies here and there!
    I need a new tailgate from backing into an overhang in my garage. Dent on the top part of it that is very bad - got it checked out and they said it would need to be replaced.

    I see alot of people in the "hood" areas of Orange County selling 2012 Tailgates. Should I avoid these? I assume they are more than likely stolen (pictures usually have like cut camera wires).

    I used a couple of those giant zip ties that hvac installers use, They're about 2 feet long, 1/2" wide, maybe 3/16" thick. Easier to install, no rust, can be made super tight then trimmed. I have a whole bag of them, if I ever need to take the tailgate off. I figure thieves are basically lazy, stupid and won't have anything to cut heavy plastic with them.
    Or just use a standard hose clamp, position the nut about 5 o'clock. You'll need a 1/4" ratchet, short extension, universal, socket to tighten them. No thief will have the tools to remove them.

    Did he bring you 30 Torx bit to go with it? Cause you'll need that.
    Takes like 15 minutes to install if you watch a video beforehand. Super easy.
