Did Gen 2 have this many issues where they came out?

Just wondering if anyone was on this board when the Gen 2 trucks came out and did they have the same amount of issues as the new Gen 3?

I didn't buy my 2nd gen new, but from what I read they had their share of issues too. Some seem to be different issues, but both seem to have had some when they first came out. They still have some honestly even after 10 years. People who had the 1st gen talked badly of the 2nd gen when they were first released sort of like the 2nd gen people talk about the 3rd gen. It's just how things go when a new model comes out.

If I remember correctly, some of the complaints were transmission shift points that were changed by a software fix, horrible mpg, engine clatter, loss of the transfer case shift lever, breaking off the cleats in the composite beds and the frame rust problem that continued from the first gen.

Biggest complaint from the first gen owners was how much bigger the Tacos got, almost as big as the tundra before it went full size.

    I'll add...
Engine mounts pushing through the frame '05-'06.
    Leaf spring; never fixed.
    Driveline vibes; never fixed.

I don't know why everyone is talking about all these 3rd gen issues. I haven't had any. I think people are just complaining because they can. It's truck, not a Mercedes.

i follow these forums daily and really don't see many problems with the 3rd gen. It's occasional and usually a 1 off, or 3. I see way more people here happy with their 3rd gen. Usually forums are flooded with problems because that's what people do... Go to the internet to yell about something. Not the case here.

I'm at 1,500 miles and the three issues my truck has are:

    1. Hood Glue Issue
    2. Delayed engagement into D during a cold start, going from P -> R -> D
    3. Rear window seals are not right and bow outwards on both rear doors with the window up. Seems to be a improperly made window seal.

What I would like to see improved is the PCM/TCM programming, since it's a bit clunky.

When I bought my 2001 Tundra 4x4 Limited TRD - it was pretty solid but it did have front brake issues which required replacement rotors/calipers via a TSB. That didn't solve the issue, but it did help it. Every vehicle has it's problems.

Had that on my gen 2. It's on the Gen 3 but if you just keep your foot on the brake and let it set for 1 sec more it will be ok. She's a cold blooded beast!

Traded my 06 SR5 V6 4WD after 148,000 mi. Never had any problems. My 2016 is perfect so far. Absolutely none of the issues talked about here. 2500 mi.

I also park with my Parking brake on as to not put pressure on the Transmission, I wonder if that would effect the delay your talking about?

What is this hood glue issue? Is that related to the vibrating hood issue I read about?

appears to be on the non "SPORT" hoods only. If you have a scoop then shouldn't have the issue.

Adhesive separation between the skin and support members. Doesn't seem to affect scooped hoods.

The glue/sealant separates between the inner and outer shell causing the hood to flex at speed. There is another thread with pics.
