There isn't that many problems. While there have been a few things, mostly supplier related, this is to be expected on a new model. People just like to bitch about everything. Or think there is an issue when in fact there complaint is normal.

I agree. My truck goes down the road nicely and everything works. I expected a few issues to sort out being the first model year. I'd buy another one.

I expected my truck to be a rolling vibration and whistling machine after reading the threads on here. I would be able to hear a baby breathing in the back seat it's so quiet and would be able to drive with a full cup of coffee on the roof it's so smooth.

I'm gonna take the high road since it's New Year's Eve. But as the Rock says "It doesn't matter what you think...."

My rear window seals do the exact same thing. I wonder if that's just how they are?

This can be said for just about any new product that is introduced to the market. The people who complain about little things on a new product should stop whining and make an effort to report the issues to the manufacturer so that they can be addressed in future versions of said product. If you don't like dealing with 'issues', then wait for the later versions before buying.

Now if the manufacturer fails to address the issues 2-3 versions later, you should take your money elsewhere, that will shake things up the ladder.

uhm No. You can check forums TTORA, Toyota nation or other few that existed.
People complained that 2gen is too big (and it is) otherwise there were no failures right from dealer. Some problems came up couple years later but first year was rather boring. Nothing like 3gen for sure.(nobody had to get engine taken a part with 200 miles) or did not make it from dealer.
If 2gen had that many failures in first year I would have bought something else. Most of us would probably bought something else.
Plus 4.0 was massive stepup from 3.4 V6

I definitely feel like transmission shift points and logic on these trucks are all out of whack. They definitely need an update to their software.

Let's also be a realist that the internet has a much larger user base than it did in 2005, so the chance of hearing about something today, versus in 2005 is greater. We also have a younger generation who has been using technology as part of their daily life since they were very young buying these trucks, so again, that will bring more experience to the 'net. Social Media has brought MANY more people to the 'net to share their experiences in all age categories. You can bet your ass there was a grenaded 4.0L somewhere. So it's not apples to apples by any stretch of the imagination. Did we have Smartphones in 2005? No. People were maybe just getting their hands on Myspace and I know damn well I hated using my crappy Blackberry.

My Mom is 68 years old. She didn't even have a cell phone in 2005. Now in 2015, she has a huge Galaxy S6, is on Facebook 24x7, texting me at every inopportune moment, etc. Things have changed.

    Some apparently; it's not normal.
I just got back from the dealer; I have new seals on the way. The new trucks on the lot are nice and tight.

Oddly we were able to hear about rear diffs exploding on TRD OR year later.... (end of 2006) So internet worked back than as communication medium. If it worked for problems with rear diff it would work with engine but there were no engine failures. NUMMI turned high quality products. Back than supposedly many trucks in NUMMI got engine from LC factory in Japan. There are no mistakes in there. My rear diff came from Hino factory...
    Massive difference in quality.

Agreed, that's why I mentioned it's just how things go when a new model comes out. There will always be issues with first year models regardless of what make/model it is.

The internet was a perfect platform for consumers to congregate, share experiences and realize that manufacturers were dropping the ball.

TTORA has a sticky regarding failed rear ends for 05-06 running the E-locker, some as low as 8k miles. We could probably add that to the list

TTORA?? Baha ha.... I started on that forum in 1999.
I'd be curious to see the 'offroading' habits of those with failed axles/lockers. I'm willing to bet at least HALF or more are from pure stupidity and abuse.

Those same people probably should've upgraded to bigger/stronger axles in the first place instead of blaming Toyota.

I've seen it...'that guy' - who can't afford to build his shit strong enough to handle their otherwise lame driving skills and lack of off-road finesse. LOL

Ha, In the motorcycle world you have the opposite, you have guys that build up their bikes with top-shelf gear but have no Idea how to ride it properly.

Did you have to pay for the new seals?
