From last week's climbing trip to Alabama Hills. I camped in the back of my truck on a newly made bed platform. Performed so well! I like that it offered space underneath to store things and it wasn't so high that I couldn't sit up (kind of had to bend my neck a tad but it was fine). We slept two people in the back with two dogs. there are 4 dogs in this last photo having a dog party!

Got any pics of the bed? Always curious about sleeping in the back of a short bed.

I'm at work right now and will get some pics up tomorrow. I'm 5'4" so when I curl up I fit perfectly fine.

What does everybody use for a mattress? I have a short bed and want to get a bed tent so I can utilize the full length when the tailgate is down. Is there enough room to lay shoulder to shoulder up by the cab or should I lay with my head on the tailgate end? Thanks for the help!!!

I've slept diagonally with my head near the cab and it was ok. I used a thermarest plus a foam cushion. With a pillow at my head and a small bag under my ankles I slept with an slight arch like I was in a hammock. Little buddy propane heater kept me warm under my Leer Cap.

The zipper seems to be an issue with some people. How is yours holding up ?
And how good of a fit, for mosquitoes ?

When ive slept in the back its been without a platform. I just used a cheap air mattress from wal-mart. It came with a pump and the bed outlet worked great to fill it up. For platforms i know a few guys who just use thermrest pads and others got 2" mattress toppers and sleep on top of that.

I have had mine for about a year, and I have had no zipper issues, as far as mosquitoes go it does have minor gaps in areas around the tailgate, and depending how flush your topper fits you could have small gaps around there also

Thanks, there's one place I go camping where I'd need to fill in those gaps. I'm confident there is a solution if need be.
I just got my shell a few weeks ago. I have a long bed, which is fine for sleeping. But the extra room with the tailgate down has already proven to be some sort of luxury, can't go back now !

About to go camping again, which reminded me I didn't post a photo from the last camping trip!

Alabama Hills this past October. Was also playing with new camera...

So how many of you guys in here are married with no kids, and go camping without the spouses?
I mention no kids because it's easier to get out and camp by taking the kids along than it is with only the wife.

Just curious. I took the wife once, but she's really not into it. So was just curious how many are bro trips, or if wives come, how often.

I'd say about 50% with and 50% without for me. My wife loves to camp but she only goes if other ladies will be present.

I have a long term girlfriend, no kids. I'm fortunate in that my GF loves to camp (as long as there are bath facilities within reach). My best friend and I also are into camping and will hike into the bush to set up camp for a night or two.

Is your wife into any outdoor activities? Hiking, biking, etc? It's always best to have an incentive to head out and makes it much more fun.

She's not outdoors-y much at all actually. Which I actually don't have a problem with. I don't mind camping without her. I mean, I try every chance I get to get her out there and make things more comfortable but she just isn't into it.

So is it pretty rare to have just the wife (or a friends' wife) camping being the only female? Mine is about the same. Would only be tempted into it if there will be another female. Unfortunately the one trip I took her on where we had a friend with us (wife/husband) it was super hot and had a LOUUUUD snoring old man at the site right next to us. Then we wheeled all day on a boring path. No hiking or anything. So it kind of turned her off to it.

Yeah it is pretty rare for only one to go because for the most part all the guys are out on the pontoon boats fishing. Gotta keep them in pairs so they can entertain themselves :)
