i have an 04 prerunner four door. have put a lot of thought to converting to 4 wheel. reason for converting is because in four more payments this baby is MINE, and i am a california transplant (im in alaska) and would love to go play in the snow. has anyone done this? if so what parts (aside from the obvious like transfer case, cv axles, driveshaft or shafts. any info is appreciated. a list would be nice, if possible. thank you in advance

There is the build thread of somebody who did it. Lots of pages to read through, but everything you need is in there.

You need to cut holes for the transfer shifter(s), mounts for the front solid axle (if you go that route), etc.

chances are i would do independent front end. smoother ride, yada, yada, yada. besides, i want a stocker, well as stock as a conversion can go... i dont plan to get radical with this thing. i would just like to have that second shifter in my truck...

If you could find a wrecked/junked first gen 4x4, you would be golden

Engage Offroad long travel front and rear with some fat tires.

try to find someone who is upgrading to a solid axle front and buy their stock parts...

recently, someone upgraded and sold their whole front end, axle to axle including diff, transfer case, and drivelines all for $900...
