Folks I am in the market for a 16 OR 4x4 dbl cab long bed PT with JBL silver. These trucks are very hard to come by and I have been told that toyota is making only 1 percent of the tacos in long bed for 2016. Furthermore the dealers are telling me they can order it but it will take 8 to 16 weeks. I think they are pulling my leg. Other members on this forum have ordered the truck 12 weeks ago and they still have not received it.

I currently own a 06 sport taco with 220,000 miles and she appears to have seen her best days It is in need of a brake job ,engine gasket, tires , battery, front end work, and a new gas filter. She still drives very well and I was hoping she could last until I get my new taco. I priced out all of the work that she needs and it comes to around 4000 dollars. It may require additional work. Tell me what you think about this. Being that the truck I want is hard to come by and it looks like I am going to have to wait for the 2017 tacos not to mention the small problems the 16 are having. What about if I just purchased a SR5 4x4 dbl cab and kept it until I ordered my 17 taco OR around nov 2017. I see that other people around here are getting pretty trade prices on their 14 and 15 tacos. Or I could just put the 4000 into my 06 and maybe I could get another 100000 miles out of her although I would more than likely not put those miles on it because I would have a new taco by latter 2016. Thoughts

I'd fix any pertinent stuff that your current Tacoma needs and drive it until you can sell or trade it for your new Tacoma. I see no need to be bouncing around vehicles like an SR5 that you don't want anyway.

If anything, pick up an older cheap vehicle to putz around in while you wait that you can just toss on Craigslist when your finished and get your new Tacoma.

I'd just try not to spend anything on the 06, and wait for what I wanted from the dealer. There's nothing like a new truck. I bought mine as a 2015 from 2 that were left on the dealers lot before the 2016 were about to start arriving.

Fix it and order a 2017. Keep all of the receipts, do some of the work yourself if possible. Brakes, battery and fuel filter are not hard. These trucks have good resale IF they are taken care of.

I don't know the extent of the issues, but I wouldn't buy something you don't want right now. If you want to do that, follow the advice and buy a beater to hold you over until then. However to me, the wise investment would be to fix the Taco. Since it's not mods, it will help resale.

As others have mentioned, wait it out, and get your dream build. You will lose more money if you buy and trade a 2016 truck. The dealers make money on every sale/trade. I know it's a repeat of what others have said, but I'm in 100% agreement. I bought and traded the wrong car way too many times.

My story is similar to OP's; I currently have a 2005 Tacoma Sport (115k miles) and want an Inferno TRD Off-Road SB with towing package, PremTech, and JBL. However, by Toyota's archaic Soviet-style centralized regional allocation approach, such an unreasonable request is apparently illegal here in Pennsylvania. Local dealer has limited interest in attempting any effort to accommodate. I've been negotiating with a small dealer in upper Michigan where I come from (different region), but this could take a while and it's 1000 miles away. My 05 Tacoma is in good shape, and if the Michigan thing falls through I'll stick with it until the 2017's come out, if not later. Toyota's corporate policies are not very customer-focused IMHO; it's amazing how many people on this forum have had to travel long distances or experience long waits to get the vehicle they want.
